Yeah, good luck with that. One of my local repair shops closed down as ALL of his mechanics left him for better paying jobs elsewhere.

Much like good drivers, good mechanics are difficult to find. If they're good, they already have a nice job somewhere. I know *I* would hate to be a business owner these days that had to hire a bunch of people. Locally, it seems like most businesses have a "now hiring if you're breathing" sign out front.

Check with the VA job placement people as well. Lots of vets getting out these days of the Biden fiasco.

The company I work for is looking as well, but in restaurant equipment repair and refrigeration. The good ones stay where they’re at the bad ones bounce around. Hard to get good ones to move unless you’re willing to pay much more than where they’re at and offer great deal more benefits.

I was a truck and equipment mechanic for 42 years. Happily retired now.  It was a good solid career, but was hard on my body. Sorry, not interested.
