Navy Base deer

It's that way on many installations, the deer know where they are safe and hang out there.  Here at Ft Campbell, they used to have a cull once a year or so, where they got a few guys to get them at night to decrease the population.  The deer would be donated to soldiers and their family and I think also the Hunters for the Hungry as well.

Back years ago when I was hunting they use to have draw hunts on Ft Campbell and you could take 1 Doe and 1 buck per hunt in certain areas to help control the population. I don't know if they still have those hunts or not anymore. I do believe that soldiers on the base, veterans and handicap veterans can hunt certain areas but not sure

I haven’t tried to hunt or fish at Campbell in quite a while. I find the access and procedures for check in to be a pain.  I have gotten credentials before but  just don’t like the check in process.  I am older so I don’t like to deal with the bureaucracy.   https://ftcampbell.isportsman.net/

That was one of the reasons why I stopped hunting there.  They made you go back to the check station to get another parking pass if you changed areas, when at other bases using the same software would give you a yearly pass.  That and the fact that back then center fire weapons were really restricted, had to use shotgun or black powder for most of the season.

Killed my first two deer while standing in waist deep brush on a hot fall day at Naval Weapons Station Charleston. Was as worried about getting snake bit as much as anything, until I heard another "hunters" load of 00 Buck slam into the trees overhead!

Place here where I retired from, SCSC Wallops Island, is LOUSY with deer. They used to allow hunting, but the base is a NASA owned facility, and their director had a head-start on "woke" many years ago, I guess...
