Need advice for a night vision monocular

Recommended Posts

I am wanting to get into the night vision game.  Is there anything worth owning for between $500-1000?  I would love for it to do the white phosphorus.  Let me know you thoughts.  Also is there re-chargeable models?

The succinct answer is no. That’s simply not a viable budget for night vision.

it is not recommended to use rechargeable batteries in a night vision device as the voltages are not as consistent as with a non-rechargeable lithium battery. This creates an extra risk of damage to the device.

I agree with Chucktshoes, that’s a low budget for entry into the NVG game. I have looked through a couple sub $1k offerings and honestly they were worse than what our military was using back in the 90s. If you’ve never used any you might not know the difference, but then you’d be pissed when you had a chance to see what another $1k could have gotten you. Not saying this to discourage you, just wanting to save you some frustration. It’s not like the difference between a $1k rifle and a $2k rifle. You can shoot and enjoy both of those from day one. It’s more like the difference between putting on a pair of sun glasses that sat at the bottom of a river all year and a pair you just bought at the store.

Night vision is not for the faint of heart. It's expensive, expect to spend 4 or 5 grand on a kit. It is pretty neat to be able to see in the dark.

Generally true, but I know where there is a full starter kit for less than $3k.

In our classified section. 😉

It’s one of those things that folks have a hard time ponying up the cash for. It’s a big leap. Of course once they do, it’s always “why did I wait so long?!”

Very true. This guy has no problem dropping cash on gear. Main rifle is a KAC sr15, multiple cans and all that. I've told him to sell one or two rifles and buy nods.
