Perhaps not. NSSF subsequently pointed out that it was the insurance companies that settled, not Remington Outdoor Company - it had been split up and auctioned off from the bankruptcy and no longer existed to settle.

That maybe true but its still a form of holding the gun financially responsible instead of the shooter. My concern is that more of this will come since this did pay off.

Beretta beat them to it several years ago.

Seems a dazzling young urbanite removed a mag from one said Beretta, pointed it at his "friend" & pulled the trigger. Dazzling young urbanite did NOT clear the chamber after removing the mag & we all can guess what happened with the trigger pull.

Don't recall if it was a judge or jury trial, but Beretta was found guilty of negligence (or settled, can't remember) because they DIDN'T PROVIDE A WARNING IT WOULD FIRE WITHOUT THE MAG!

Yes, boys & girls, gun owners are TOO GD stupid to know to NOT pull the trigger on a loaded gun. They HAVE to be told by the mfgr to NOT do that. You can't make this stuff up.  🤪

Seems like S&W got sued over one of their AR's being used illegally as well? I don't recall the results of that one.

Aside from Ronnie Barrett, I don't recall a single gun mfgr having the balls to tell a plaintiff to go screw themselves over a lawsuit. Someone correct me if I'm wrong there?

The most likely consequence of this settlement will be increased premiums from insurers marketing corporate liability insurance to gun and ammunition manufacturers.  Those premiums were almost certainly rising already, as the entire insurance industry has been "tight" for a while now, with premiums for all forms of insurance increasing.  This settlement probably doesn't represent a truly consequential loss for the insurers or the reinsurers involved, however given the present status of the market it certainly doesn't help any ...

So this could open all manufacturers to lawsuits when products are misused or accidental?? Not good

"Reasonably foreseeable misuse" is not a new concept for our legal system.  Its been in play for many years in industrial accident litigation where people intentionally or unintentionally bypassed safety systems and got hurt.
