Tragic. But guns don’t just go off by accident

Tragic story from St Louis where two children are dead after playing with a hand gun. However, it just bothers me when folks say “the gun just went off by accident”.  As we all know, guns don’t just go off.

I wish when journalists wrote articles, they would be more accurate with the way they described how accidental shootings happen.  Instead of “they were playing with the gun and it accidentally went off”, say “they were playing with the gun when he/she accidentally pulled the trigger”.

A terrible and preventable situation.  A 12 and 14 yr old livestreaming on FB at 2am seems unusual to me, but I presume the parents will be in court in the near term.  Kids need to be educated on how to handle firearms.

As for the wording used.....  journalists don't write articles much anymore, reporters do.  There's a distinct difference.

You are correct, reporter is a better term.

"To my knowledge, then she picked it up, she picked it up by the barrel, and it went off again... It was not a suicide. It was just a freak accident."

Sympathy for the mother and understand how it is hard to accept the more likely scenario.

What the Hell were young teens doing in a bathroom at 2 am with a gun.  Major problem with that.
