Rugged smart phone

Recommended Posts

Need some help here. Might have to spring for a new phone soon. Iphone xr is giving me trouble (again).
I’d like to have something this time that is truly rugged. Something made for someone who is truly dangerous to flimsy electronic things, or would wreck an iron anvil with a rubber mallet.
Any suggestions?

I think it's more about the case than the phone as all of the phones are pretty fragile on their own.  I've had good luck with cases from Body Glove, Spigen, and Otter Box.  Had a body glove on my last phone the entire time that I had it and it did well.  On my second Spigen, my last one lasted 3 years, phone finally had a software issue.  I've had an OtterBox on my work phone for about 4 years now.  All of these cases have met or exceeded my expectations and I'm fairly rough on things.

Google “mil spec phone”. Should find a winner there. I’ve had success with OtterBox and a screen protector and been fine. Washed my XR in the sink with Dawn and did fine. It’s hanging on, but the 13 keeps popping up.  OtterBox warranty is great too.

I’ll just forget about finding something rugged and go the otterbox route.
I’m using the iphone xr right now, but I’m not a big phone guru. Would you folks recommend a Samsung over an ilhone, or the opposite, and why?

I think it's personal preference.  I have an iPhone for work and and Android (Google Pixel 6 Pro) for my personal phone.  I can't stand the iPhone interface.  I've had the iPhone for 6 years and use it for work related phone calls and email.  I use my personal phone for everything else, even work related Internet.  I've found that most people are exactly the opposite.  More than likely you would like some variation of an iPhone since that is what you are used to.

I agree. I have had several iterations of each platform over the years. While I greatly prefer the iPhone, I would not say that a quality Android device is a bad choice. The thing to keep in mind about Android is the much larger range of quality provided by the various device manufacturers means having to conduct more research to be sure you are getting a good one. There is a vast difference between low and high quality Android devices.

Not that I’m a huge tech guru or a fan of any certain brand, but since I’m used to the iphone I went ahead and went with an iphone 13 pro max and an otterbox defender pro case. Should be delivered today. We’ll see how it goes.
