Disposing of bad/unwanted ammo?

Recommended Posts

I have some unknown reloads left over after my best friend passed a few years ago. I have no idea where he got it as he didn't reload.  Some I have no use for and some is just dangerous junk. Frankly, I just don't have the time or interest in breaking it down for components or trash.  I've never run into this situation before. So what's the best way to dispose of it?

Give/sell it to someone that can use the components, making sure to let them know they are unknown reloads.

If anybody is interested, here's what I got:

28 rds 6.5 Jap. Norma cases

Aprox 100 rds 7.7 Jap. Modified .30-06 cases

Aprox 150 rds 9mm. Mostly 125gr lead but some 100gr SP (.380 bullets)

The 9mm is downright dangerous! I tried it and had a couple of case ruptures! NO NOT SHOOT THIS ####!!!!!

If you want it, all ya gotta do is come get it.

You have described some of this as "dangerous junk."  With that having been said, I would recommend you make some documented disclosure of the risk to whoever gets this, ideally signed by them, or photo evidence of same, or send to the bottom of the lake.

Dismantle it, bury it, throw it in the river, whatever.  Don’t give it to anyone.

i was once given a mixed bag of nearly 100 old .30-06 rounds.  Some corroded surplus, most others cast reloads.  Got tired of having it around so over the course of a couple of weeks just started putting them in my RCBS hammer.  Those cast reloads all looked identical from the outside but there were two entirely different bullets weights.

Drop it in a deep hole in the nearest lake or the river.

Please don't throw it in a river or a lake. We already have too much pollution in our waterways.
