Fall Firearms Deer Season Weather?

Recommended Posts

It’s always a flip of a quarter. Late food plots always make you pray for rain. Some years we barely get any rain that time of year. Hope this year is better, even though I don’t have plots to worry about. I still hope we get it for those hunters that do.
Our problem is that during bow season it’s almost always warmer than we wish it was. We get lucky sometimes and get some cooler days during archery but not near enough.

Hot for bow. Lots of insects

Cool mornings and warm evenings muzzleloader.

Cool to cold for rifle.

Rain will taper off by then and expect ice more than snow.

I've hunted deer in Tennessee during rifle season in everything from a t shirt to insulated coveralls.  Expect weather to be anywhere from 75 degrees down to 10 degrees or so.  We may have monsoons, we may have droughts, it's a complete crap shoot.

The best approach for me is a layering system, so I can adjust as needed. The heat through most of bow season is the worst IMO.

It can get pretty soggy sometimes, but don’t let the rain deter you. One of my most memorable TN hunts was a November bow hunt in a downpour rain. I took my bow instead of muzzleloader because of the rain. It was just before dark and the water was running like a waterfall off my hat. The deer were everywhere! A doe brought a nice buck right under my stand. I guess they thought the woods were free of any hunters on that wet day... nope 😃

Also Thermacell is your friend until first frost. Be careful of ticks
