I'm surprised they're not on the front of every MSM site available.   It's the bigotry that drove him to it because he was bullied.  Seems like the trifecta for liberals.  Bullying, Bigotry, and those evil guns.

Give it some time. After all, they aren't that smart.

Kid in drag doesn't appear to be the shooter, but the parallels to Sandy Hook are striking, seems like the grandmother, like Lanza's mother, had worked for the school according to some articles.  I don't think him ending up there was a coincidence, more than likely he meant to end up there.  He was engaged at the entrance, by one, then two additional LEOs, but he outgunned the first, at the door, and went in.  How we can afford to send a foreign country billions yet not spend anything to fortify our schools is mind numbing.  We need to be like Israel and train and arm our teachers to be the final line of defense against these nut jobs.

That unfortunately is not working for a lot of Americans. I have read stories in the past about people who wanted to get mental health treatment and couldn't get the help the needed. People both with and without insurance. It's an broken system.

That said, I think mental illness is only part of the issue here along with a bunch of other societal and cultural problems we have.

No doubt there are mental issues at play here and in any other such situations.

How do we keep guns out of the hands of these deranged individuals intent on slaughtering as many people as they can?

This is a popular claim but it's not true. Teachers are not typically armed in Israel but they do have armed guards.

We've seen 3-4 mass shootings now where even having police on scene did not stop the shooting.

Parkland, Pulse Nightclub, Santa Fe, and now this school. I love the idea of more SRO's though.

maybe they can’t lock a public school from outside entry? The Christian school where my wife works keeps all the doors locked. you have to ring the bell and either the downstairs admin asks who you are and what you need (on camera) or my wife answers from the school office. no one gets in without knowledge. unless of course they were to shoot their way in.

All the schools I know of are locked in a similar fashion. But that's just security theater.  Yes, those doors should be locked, but the first secure entry point should be the gate in the fence that's 100 yds from any door. The intercom should be at the gate. There should be another intercom and vestibule with metal detectors at the front door.   Cameras with facial recognition software, ID scanning, etc.  The fire doors in the hallways and classrooms should be closed and locked from entry from the outside. There's so many things that could be done to improve the security.

As for bigotry... I saw an article that said the community was 91% Hispanic so that's a bit of a stretch. It's likely everyone he killed was Hispanic.

I know we all got really excited about "red flag" laws but I suspect it'll come up again. This happened so fast that I don't think even that would've helped in this case. Background checks likely wouldn't have either, I'd guess he had no background to check.

Most of us raise our kids and tell them to be capitalist, but we give them everything without requiring them to work for it.

Capitalism = good

Socialism = bad

We raise them in Socialism.

We tell them they are special. Everyone gets a trophy. No bullying ever.  They get older and realize that their not special. They have to work to get what they want and the first time they fail or someone says bad things to them, they can't cope.

This is our fault as a society.

We need to let them fail when they're 5 years old.

We need to teach them how to deal with people that say bad things.

That's the problem.  We have to fix it and that's someone else's job. We are too busy for that nonsense.

What about the assholes who kill people because they don’t like the changing demographics of the country?  I have a feeling the murderer in New York was probably raised in a good home. If so, his background didn’t stop him from behaving like a lunatic.

You all know that regardless what you put into raising kids, at the end of the day they will make their own decisions. Many times those decisions are based more upon peer pressure than whatever a parent has to say. They forget that we were young once upon a time.

I’m shocked by the things my adult kids share with me now, and I treated them like buck privates in the army when it came to school and work.  Never any problems that I knew of out of the three of them. Teens and young adults  are still trying to figure it out. If they don’t have a positive outlet, they will take the negative route. All the righteous upbringing in the world won’t change that.

Then you are extremely fortunate if that’s actually the case. Many folks vastly overestimate how much mental health coverage they really have until they find the need to make use of it. Most health insurance provides very little to no coverage for mental health.

My wife and I are dealing with this issue now as she is wanting to pursue therapy that has been long put off and is still holding off because of the expenses involved are very difficult to make work. (We have a heavy load of medical expenses related to two of our kids being in therapy for sensory processing issues.) Hell, I’m probably going to be selling a few guns to help defray those costs.

That’s not a “woe is me” tale, but simply saying you’re being awfully glib about a subject that is a major concern and struggle for a lot of folks. You’re speaking from either a place of great privilege or ignorance or just maybe even a little of both.

Not according to the Israelis I served with, they informed me that many of the administration are not only trained but armed to deal with situations like this.  And they must be doing something right, specially in light of the fact that they are surrounded by folks that would like nothing more than to kill a bunch of them.  Though it may not be the actual teachers in front of the class, there are armed personnel on premises.

Hey I believe the government Planned this shooting, I truly think its a bigger agenda. maybe thats just me but Something not right

Young fella, you have every right to hold this opinion, or any other one for that matter, but, if you want to have people respect your ideas, what you should strive for is to qualify your statements with the factual evidence that you used to reach your opinion. Many people in this age have strong opinions to share, but very seldom do you hear how they got there. This statement that you made earlier would be a very irresponsible thing to put into circulation if you cannot back it up with factual evidence. I think you will find that you are in the company of some extremely well informed and intelligent Tennesseans (myself excluded, obviously) who know a thing or two about our government, and may not appreciate here-say…which is basically a statement that makes an assertion yet lacks the evidence to confirm whether or not it’s the truth.
Look, please don’t think that I’m picking on you here, because I am not. Rather, I’m trying to give you some helpful advice. Making a claim like the one that you made is akin to what is being fed to the misinformed every waking hour from the corrupt news media in this country. Thanks to social media, non-events are flamed into conflagrations in no time flat because we are living in a time where people simply react in a knee jerk fashion rather than take the time to find out whether something is true or not. Sometimes, God forbid, innocent people get hurt. This is tragic.
What if some day in the future you work for an employer who bids on, say, a government contract? Perhaps this contract requires you to obtain a clearance to work on a sensitive piece of equipment. When those fact finders dig into your life (and they most certainly will), a statement where you publicly go on record and blame the government for a heinous act such as the one perpetrated by that disturbed young man will not be to your advantage. When we hit ‘send’, our words go out into cyberspace and you can’t simply reel it back in. Do I agree with that? No, no I do not. Everyone has said things, thought things, even done things that they regret as soon as it happens (myself very much included!). People change, opinions change, people grow, mature, become wiser, smarter and to judge someone’s lifelong merits based on a tweet or text is the definition of insanity…but these are the times we are living in, unfortunately.
These terrible events are not going to go away. They are here to stay and they’ll keep getting worse because the die has been cast and there’s no turning back. We as a nation have collectively turned our back on the only One who could possibly right this sinking ship. Professing to be wise, we’ve become as fools. It is far too late to save this country but, thankfully, people can still be SAVED.
Brothers, if you want to understand why these things are happening, just search the Scriptures. Solomon (who has the distinction of being the wisest mortal to have ever lived) wrote “there is nothing new under the sun”. Think about that for a minute….all the ‘advances’ our society has made…the technology, even! It’s nothing new, only packaged differently is all. It was Paul the Apostle who reminded/warned us in Ephesians Chap 6 and verse 12 that “we wrestle not against flesh and blood, but against principalities, against powers, against the rulers of the darkness of this world, against spiritual wickedness in high places”. Just in case anyone isn’t familiar with “principalities, powers, and rulers”, those are different ranks, or classes of wicked supernatural entities that serve the (little g) god of this world, also known as “the Prince of the Power of the Air” - our Adversary, Satan and this is all his doing. This domain is his until Christ returns to take it from him.

Come quickly, Lord Jesus.

In other news, brilliant leftist minds like Michael Moore are calling for a moratorium on gun sales and a repeal of the Second Amendment, because Washington and Jefferson never would have approved of it if they had known bullets would be invented 50 years later.

Amen to the last 2 paragraphs.  It's a Godlesss Society we live in or as you said a society being run by the adversary.  Satan has taken over and theres no way god is happy looking down at all the things going on.  I'm not necessarily talking about this event here as much as all the other crap going on in the country.  He is a vengeful God and people need to get to know him quick, I'm not sure how much time we have left.  i'll be on that narrow path right there with you JD.

Actually, the more I read about the timeline prior to the Gunman entering the building, I’m not sure the school was his real target.

After he shot his grandmother, he gathered up his gear and fled in a truck. As I understand it, police were chasing him when he wreaked the truck, near the school. He jumped out and had a running gun battle with police as he tried to get away. Unfortunately he ran towards and into the school. Several officers were hit. He than ran into a classroom and barricaded the door. Then proceeded to shot the teacher and the kids in that classroom, until the Border Patrol Tactical Team stormed the class and killed him.

This has me wondering if he ever intended to attack the school in the first place. It almost seems it ended up being a target of opportunity.

That doesn’t lessen the impact on the community or our nation from such a heinous crime.

I just read (I’ll go find the link and post it) that he posted on Facebook after he shot his grandmother that he was going to shoot up an elementary school next. Sick

Texas Gov. Greg Abbott says the Uvalde shooter made three facebook posts in the 30 minutes before yesterday's attack: - "I'm going to shoot my grandmother." - "I shot my grandmother." - "I'm going to shoot an elementary school."

Seems Facebook is all tuned up to ban and censor conservatives or anyone that speaks against abortion or teaching 5 year olds about  LGBHTQRS+%* indoctrination, but they have no mechanism to alert them to actual pending terrorism.
