Definition of Mass Shooting

Has the Gov/News Media changed the criterion on what constitutes a mass shooting now? TV news stated today that there have been over 300 mass shootings in the U S so far this year.

Its changed multiple times over the past several years. I think we are down to 3 or 4 deaths or injuries to be considered one. We weren't having enough to push the narrative in previous years. Sounds alot like this virus i heard about once upon a time 🤔

They also don't separate crime-related shootings from nut-job shootings. So if 3 or more gang bangers shoot each other over a drug deal, that counts as a "mass shooting". Or something more in the grey area like a bank robbery with 3+ shot that also counts. But neither of those scenarios are the same, psychologically, as the seemingly random-victim nature of yesterday's parade shooting, Buffalo, Uvalde, Las Vegas country music fest, the DC snipers, etc.

I think a lot of the “news” sources use the https://www.gunviolencearchive.org/ for their reporting.

It’s not easy to figure out how they define things or cooks the books but from what I can ascertain mass shooting = four or more shot/injured with less than four killed, not including the shooter.  Mass murder is the same, but at least four of those shot are killed.

Then again, their rather abbreviated discussion of methodology does not exactly line up with how they present it.
