New to Tri Cities Area

Recommended Posts

Hi all,  As the title of the post says, I'm new to the tricities area and TN in general, coming from VA. I was surprised at how few spots there are for long range shooting out here. So far I've found Kettlefoot, Big Ivy, Cherokee gun club and TAC2. I've heard TAC2 scheduling is spotty at best and cherokee looks like it only goes out to 500 yards. Big Ivy seems cool and I'd definitely want to check it out for shooting between mountains, but it is a bit further and no options to get a membership. That kind of leaves me with Kettlefoot which does have a 1000 yard range, but requires a sponsor. I'm fairly new to long range shooting in general, and the last range I was part of only required a yearly membership fee, I've never needed to be sponsored before. How does that process work? Do you really have to be friends with someone already in the club? I'd love to find somewhere to go because my new job doesn't start for a few more weeks and it's already been 1.5 months since I've gotten to shoot!

I am also new to the Tricities area. I was looking to join Kettlefoot as well. I was told that if you show up on Sundays at 2pm one of the primary guys for membership is there. If you don't know anyone at the club, they would sponsor you as long as you apply in person. Don't quote me but that was the impression I got talking to a few people in the area that have had memberships or competed at Kettlefoot. I am going to go down and at least investigate the claims once I am able.
