Austism & firearms ownership in TN?

Recommended Posts

I have a friend in Colorado that has Asperger's Syndrome (very high functioning Autism.) He's a retired engineer, a very accomplished long range shooter, and mind boggling at precision handloading and load work-up.

He's considering moving back home here to the south. Will His diagnosis alter his ability to purchase, possess and enjoy firearms in TN?

Thanks!

Colorado is more restrictive than here so he should be ok.  The only thing I've read is that you can't have been adjudicated as a mental defective or has been committed to any mental institution.

Thanks, I'm wondering precisely what all they deem "mentally defective" could include.

I'm not a lawyer but I'd guess that this means that they have been adjudicated by a court as being such.  I know we have some attorneys on TGO, so hopefully one will chime in and offer their opinion.

If high functioning autism with no history of propensity for violence was grounds for denying firearms rights, the gun community would be a whole lot smaller. Just saying.

God help us if they ever start using caliber debates on forums for any sort of litmus test.

You ever read a thread with extreme long distance precision shooters talking about setups and loadings?

You can’t convince me that the Venn diagram of those guys and being on the spectrum isn’t just a circle.

Glock vs. 1911 arguments, also. 😁

I think the form 4473 simply states: have you been adjudicated as a mental defective by a court. My grandson has the same issue and is a straight “A” student in his senior year. The form is available online to review.
