Anyone cast for 9mm?

Recommended Posts

I'm considering starting to cast for 9mm, but am trying to decide between a round nose and a truncated cone bullet. I was hoping someone locally might have some of either (or both) types that I could try to ensure proper feeding in my gun. All things considered, I'd prefer a TC, but not if it will bind up in my gun. Happy to purchase some from you, or trade for other bullets I can cast, or trade for some lead, whatever works.

PS, and for the moderators, this isn't really like a for sale/wanted ad. More of a discussion, but I would like to try some bullets if it were a possibility. I'm a benefactor, so not trying to skirt the rules or anything.

Before you buy a mold slug the bore groove diameter of your barrel.  Many 9mms have groove diameters near .357 or even .358, so you may be better off with an appropriate weight bullet that was designed for  .38/.357 bores.  Using a large enough diameter bullet helps reduce leading and will yield better accuracy.  I hope you're lucky and have a pistol with a .355 or .356 groove diameter.

If you're not familiar with slugging a bore Google for instructions.

I second what Swede said.
‘Question, are you tumble lubing as cast, sizing and lubing or powder coating ?
what weight are you wanting ?

Your 9’s can also be used in a 38/357 but again bullet fit is paramount to avoid gas cutting/leading.

If your down this way I can give you some of each tc and rn.
