Nope - I don't remember the last time I heard of this ACTUALLY HAPPENING.  I have read where people didn't want to pull over because they feared this, only to discover that the unmarked car was driven by a real cop.  Whether it happens or not, it's highly disingenuous of city council members to cite this as a reason for their ordinance.

Mulroy has not indicated that keeping people in jail is a priority.  If fact, he seems more worried about unemployed criminals having a low enough bond so they can get out the same day they are arrested for some felony.

I agree

I can't get the link to do anything and I suspect it is due to an Apple illiteracy issue on my part.  Regardless, I'm sure that it does happen.  I just don't recall it very much, but I'll do some searching.

In a non-snarky and serious manner, let me say that it does happen quite a bit. It’s a legitimate concern and all of my cop buddies (yes I actually have a few on multiple departments including MPD) say that impersonations are a significant problem in Memphis. From folks being pulled over to home invasions. I literally just asked them to confirm before this post.

That said, they all agree that Mulroy is a HUUUUUGE problem.

He's just doing what he said he would do.  Now the people who rolled their eyes are bitching.

Agreed, but as I said before, Weirich needed to go. Maybe now that folks are seeing just how bad it was inevitably going to get with an activist like Mulroy, maybe a proper reorientation can occur.

As another friend of mine said, “if the courts are trash, policing is futile.”

7.5 more years of Mulroy and it won’t matter.

I don’t care to see Nichols getting pummeled, but I would be interested in bodycam or dashcam footage of whatever he was allegedly doing that got him stopped in the first place.  I suspect we will see that on Dateline in 10 or 15 years.

Thanks for sharing, but I think I’ll await summaries and not subject myself to watching anymore of it.

I watched. Not a whole lot new. Some extended body cam footage.

Only two things stuck out to me. One was the paramedics apparent dereliction of duty. They walk up, look at Nichols with flashlights, then tell the MPD lieutenant that Nichols isn’t injured, he’s just high, then suggest MPD transport him to the drunk tank. More than likely the reason the two paramedics were canned. The second thing was one of the MPD officers mentioning to the officers not to say anything due to the body cameras being on, and they would talk about the incident later, then they all started stressing that they were in a fight for their lives with Nichols.

In one video, Nichols parents show up to the sight of the traffic stop and calmly explains to one cop that the description the officers gave of the incident seemed out of character for her son, explained that Nichols was not a bad kid, he hangs out in Germantown and skateboards.  The mother ask that they do a drug screen at the hospital, because Nichols wasn’t violent, smoked a little weed, didn’t drink or do hard drugs. Pretty much the same calm demeanor the parents have shown throughout this entire situation.

So who is to blame in this incident?

I think ultimate responsibility falls on Chief C.J. Davis. She created the Scorpion Unit and turned them loose without proper supervision. She allowed this to happen on her watch. Memphis City Council has delayed her re-appointment under the new mayor. I believe she won't get her job back. Frankly, I hope she doesn't.

One thing for certain, what I saw and what the cops said happened didn’t line up in any of the videos.

And if not for that random street camera they may have been successful in covering it up. They cannot be trusted.

The people of Memphis seem to hold that view and their council members know it. The new mayor really needs to understand where he should spend his political capital if he wants to be successful because she ain’t it.

The little stunt the mayor pulled by giving Davis the interim chief title last week is going to blow back on him.

I just watched another video of the cops at Nichols home telling the parents Nichols was intoxicated and on something stronger than marijuana. As they walk away from the home, Mills says “I just hope… he needs to make it. We did everything by the book.’”  They were only seconds from the cove that lead to Nichols front door.

In another video, it appears one of the cops notices Nichols isn’t breathing after being placed into the ambulance and says “they need to bag him.”

I’ll update more for those not interested in watching long videos.

The only thing I saw that corroborated anything they said was when they assaulted him at the traffic stop and he ran for his life, stripping off his outer shirt to lose the probes. I strongly stress that it was clear what they intended to do to him and he was literally running for his life. The rest of what the cops said is complete BS.

Probably my last post on the most recent videos. More videos to be released in a few weeks.

Two patrol officers who made the scene on dash cam discussing how the SCORPION unit was a big red flag. They also said they were too hands on, and adrenaline junkies. The female officer said Nichols was messed up bad. The male officer said he didn’t want to see Nichols, because he didn’t want to have to write about it.

I wonder how many other good cops knew that unit was off the rails and didn’t want to compromise themselves by speaking up.
