What are your favorite loadings in 2023?

I've been a longtime fan of Corbon, Federal HST, Gold Dot, Underwood and Hornady Critical Defense for JHPs.

I also like Lehigh Defense's Xtreme Defense and Penetrator rounds for woods/wheelguns.

Do you like certain brands for certain calibers? Certain projectiles?

Favor the Sig Elite V-Crown bullets.  124 gr 9mm and 125 gr 38 spl +P compact handgun are two I carry.

Appreciate that both perform well in tests and that they are affordable.

Affordable means I can cycle a mag or cylinder without worrying about going broke,  If I carry 9mm ammo so expensive am afraid to shoot it, albeit sparingly, it may or may not function in the gun when needed,

JMO, you asked for opinions and I have a LOT OF THEM!

p.s. Not in favor of the 147 gr in a micro compact.  In a duty pistol, yeah.

hopefully I will never have to experience actual performance in my reloads.  Yes, I have a few hundred rounds of reloaded XTPs. but I will trust the factory results and buy in kind.  Carry what local LEO uses or FBI recomendations.

Those tests will stand in court if necessary.  Won't invite or create a rabbit hole for a prosecuter.

I understand the logic to using what the local LEOs use.

However,  Prosecutors have been successful convicting self defense victims because hollow points and other expanding rounds were used.  The Anti Gun DAs sway the jury by convincing them that the bullets were meant to "kill and maim" and painted the victim as a blood thirsty killer instead of the victim.  Anti 2nd Amendment states suck!

I figure a few good FMJ rounds will do the trick without giving the Anti Gun DAs any fuel for their jury manipulation.

I thank God every morning for allowing me to settle down here in eastern Tennessee / America.

I would suggest that the HP argument is very weak as you presented.  Easily defended, by the LEO use and prevention of shoot throughs..  FMJ are subject to needing more shots, more risk plus the concern for shoot through and additional criminal/civil liability.  Keep in mind FMJ can shoot through 9 layers of drywall.  I would urge you to attend and document training that discusses this and other issues.

Welcome to East Tennessee. Honestly, as long as you are in the right in a shooting, the odds of you being tried and convicted are very low. LE and the Justice System aren't that way at all, around here. Nashville and Memphis are the areas you probably have to worry more about such a thing happening.

Many years ago, here in Knox County, a man shot and killed a Peeping Tom, he had caught looking in the window at his teenage daughter, as she was undressing. The DA took it to the grand jury, because he shot the Peeping Tom in the back, as he was running away. The Grand Jury rejected the DA's argument, even though he shot the guy in the back. The DA didn't try that again.

Grand Juries and DAs change, so does one's  location such as out of state.  Bad guys pick the time and place.  Control all factors that one can; choice of ammo is one of those choices.  Premium ammo cost is minimal vs. attorney fees.

I've been a big fan of V-crown lately too. Sierra and Sig made a winner at a good price point. Good call.

Just a quick question, what does "Premium Gas" have to do with "What are your favorite loadings in 2023?"?

I use my cast, powder coated, and reloaded ammo for SD.

Made you click?

Wanted to see if there were any new brands/product lines I should check out other than the mainstays I'm familiar with for handguns.

In 9mm I really like Federal HST 115 +p. Recently, I've been liking the Barnes Tac-XPD 115g +P.

When I can't find those, I've used Hornady Critical Defense and some Federal 9BPLE I've had in quantity for some time.
