Nashville vintage record shop

Recommended Posts

The first and only time I've been to Grimey's, they had a big SPLC display as you walked in. If you want your dollars spent there to go to that organization, it's probably the best for new vinyl. Third Man Records is really cool, but like MacGyver said, Mckay's and Great Escape for selection.

Granted I haven't bought vinyl in years, but I agree with these locations.

Mckays seem to be a bit better organized and easier to see and search than Great Escape. JMO

I haven't been to Phonoluxe or Grimey's in at least 10 years. Never been to Third Man Records, so can't comment there.

However, unless you got a LOT of time to spend looking around; I would suggest going to West Nashville to start your search. The Great Escape Store on Charlotte Avenue, and then hop on 40W and get McKays at Exit 199(I think).

If you are anything like me in searching, these two and a lunch break will occupy the entire day.

Good luck in you hunt, and have fun!

Does the McKays have much vinyl?  I was terribly disappointed by the one in Knoxville.  Everything was scratched.

Seems like it to me anyway. It wraps around 2 sides of the upper level in the store.

Nashville McKay's is way better than Knoxville.

Another on the list is small but sometimes you'll find some really unique stuff is "Cool Stuff Weird Things" on the corner of Charlotte at 49th. It's only about 5 blocks from The Great Escape so if you go there, you may as well check this one out too.

For used vinyl you need to go to Alison's Record Shop in West Nashville. Definitely visit Grimey's, and while you're there The Groove isn't far away. Visit Vinyl Tap while you're at it for a frosty beverage and some more record shopping. Riverside Grill Shack is close to there if you want a fantastic burger.

I got a pretty good haul today.  The great escape was the best one we went to but time was limited by the time we got there.

Charlotte store? I used to know the record buyer there. He always had a stash of primo stuff in the back for special customers.  Rare old unopened. Went back into the late 50s on some. Was I special? Some have said that.

I think I took most back there when we last moved. Just too much stuff and getting too old. Also too many hobbies!

But glad you found some things. Next trip in, you can check out some of the others.
