Interested in Saddle Hunting

Recommended Posts

Im thinking about getting into saddle hunting and would appreciate any feed back or tips on brands, techniques, and whatnot. Additionally this will be my first season bow hunting. I have all the kit I think I need but any tips/pointers there would be appreciated.

My Father was an avid bird hunter. He lost a leg in the late 60s and looked into hunting from the saddle. Hunting quail from horseback was big back then. Unfortunately, the cost of a good gun broke horse was outrageous. It never happened.

I can't even guess what a good hunting horse would cost these days.

I haven't looked into sling style stands, but with bow hunting scent control is even more important due to the proximity.  Keep your movements minimal and slow if you can't conceal well while in the saddle.   Also take into consideration exit points when aiming since you will be elevated.
