When it becomes live, I can't wait to add Rivergate Guns and Knives. They have a "NO LOADED GUNS" sign outside.

Ridiculous.

Not the legal sign, but enough to make them not get my business.

Same sort of thing at Mahoney's in Johnson City. I've purchased 2 guns from them, and I won't be back.

When I see the "no loaded guns" signs I just laugh and keep on going. I was in a pawn shop (retail on guns but pawn shop non the less) and they had the same sign. I ignored it and went in to look around. (You can see my holster with no problems).

Also unless it's the "legal" sign I also pay it no attention. They can ask me to leave but can't have me arrested and I have found out that soem of the signs are there from "previous" building occupants. Verizon here in Athens had one of those signs until they moved. When they moved I noticed they didn't put a new sign up and was told they had no policy against guns and 2 or 3 of the ladies working there were gettting handgun permits.

I'll be interested in how this database evolves. I'll not second-guess the features but wait to see how it goes. Mostly I want to see how we can do searches on things like zip-codes or a region.

I too ignore non-legal no carry signs.

You won't be able to search ZIP codes but you will be able to search by county, city / town, correctly posted or not, and of course textual search of the notes accompanying the entries.

If we list a city, are we also going to list its county? That way we could just search on a county if we were going into that area. Of course some cities, like Kingsport, are in two counties.

My idea on the zip-code was that we could sort by zip and that would give us all the posting locations reported in that geographic area.

Am I asking too many questions?

I can add a ZIP code field, but that becomes problematic when you consider that cities like Nashville have many ZIP codes. Ideally when you do a search on ZIP code, the database would ask you for a radius to results from (10mi, 20mi, 50mi, etc.) and would then return all of the results in that search area.

This software won't do that. Or at least not without extensive customization that I'm not capable of pulling off.

So... a ZIP code field would be pretty useless.
