The Hearing Protection Act & The SHORT Act - It looks like Tonight could be it. I know you're tired but...

I started a new post on this as tonight is it, from the way it looks.

I know that none of us are holding our breath but we have a chance and who knows if we'll ever get another one.  We've got Trump and we need to make some noise and make them uncomfortable just like he does.  Take a few minutes and make a couple calls.  It takes less time than voting.  I realize you probably feel beat to hell, I know I do, but let them hear you.  Below is info and a link to the GOA's short video on this.

Tonight—before the 1AM Rules Committee markup—is the last chance to get both HPA & SHORT Act in the House version of the reconciliation bill! Taking action takes less than 60 seconds. Have you called yet? Your representative: (202) 224-3121 Speaker Johnson: (202) 225-2777 Majority Leader Scalise: (202) 225-3015 Majority Whip Emmer: (202) 225-2210

H.R. 1: One Big Beautiful Bill Act passes 215 to 214 with two Republicans voting against it, one Republican voting Present and two Republicans not voting.

It includes the full version of the Hearing Protection Act but not the SHORT act.  It is now off to the Senate so now we have to let them know we want this passed with the full version of the Hearing Protection Act, as well.

Also, remember that Rep. David Kustoff was not only not our friend on this but he moved against us hard by trying to strip the Hearing Protection Act out of this early on.

And I actually called his office and told them I wanted the full bill included, like a week ago-

I have voted for Kustoff because of his voting record -why do these Politicians always have to disappoint us-

Am I understanding this correctly that a suppressor will still be taxed just under a different act? Is there any mention about how much that tax is?

I think right now, there will be no NFA tax, only sales tax.  But I will be surprised if that is the case when this is finished.

The old me would say we didn't get in this in one step so we need steps to get out. If we prove this doesn't cause chaos then the next step will be easier. But we DID got here in two steps. We need to push to remove the NFA and FPA limits on our rights. I'm not a criminal and I don't need the gubment tracking what I might own.

Good progress, but now is when to watch it carefully.  The Senate could take it out of their bill, but even if they don't, reconciliation is where this will live or die.  When two committees come together to work on the actual bill that will be passed onto the President in order is the shadow where something like the HPA could die without an up or down vote.

Section 112030

I finally read it and answered my question, excise tax at $0 for suppressor. I had read somewhere there was potential they were going to remove it from NFA but tax it under a different act similar to firearms and ammo to the wildlife fund. SBR and SBS should be removed also, but inch at a time.

As I’m sure many of you did, I wrote Sens Blackburn and Haggerty about suppressors and SBRs being taken out of the NFA.  Haggerty just sent the standard thank you email back.  Blackburn though, or her team, rather, replied back with quite the lengthy email that spoke of the Constitution and the 2nd Amendment and agreed with my point about suppressors.  Hooray for that.  On the other hand, she strangely made no mention of SBRs.

I don't know all the details of the "Big Beautiful Bill" , but if the various things I'm hearing are true, I'd be fine with leaving suppressors in the NFA for a while longer and it not pass.   🙄

This should not be surprising.

Honestly, suppressors and SBR’s will never be removed from the NFA.   Nothing will ever be removed.

If I’m not mistaken the “Big, Beautiful, Blow Up The Deficit Bill”, didn’t even propose to do so for suppressors anyway.  It just set the tax to $0.

It did. There was some confusion at first, but it would have removed them from the NFA and left them classified the same as a standard firearm. 4473, no tax stamp.

So they tried to show they did something without having to give up the database.

I sent this to our Senators;

I am very disappointed in the US Senate allowing an appointed liberal to divert progress against the infringements on our God given right to keep and bear arms. The NFA of 1934 was written to combat a problem created by the US congress with prohibition. Specifically, making certain legal firearms illegal in an attempt to protect authorities from organized crime that grew powerful by making money smuggling alcohol. If we look at historic court rulings and Constitutional amendment, we can see that it is Unconstitutional to attach a fee, tax, or test to any Constitutionally guaranteed right. The NFA goes against the Constitution and needs to be overturned. It seems our court system while being protective of the right to vote, have a blind spot to "shall not be infringed" so it is up to congress to strike the NFA in it's entirety. Joe Biden was a liar, Cannons were perfectly legal for citizens to own. Our founders wanted the populace to be able to defend themselves and their country. Make it right.

Seems like the bbw, sorry BBB passed with the NFA tax reduced to zero $0 zilch. From what i understood, previously the atf said that the NFA was constitutionally compliant due to it being a tax and not a prohibition. We will see if that changes now that its no longer a tax.
