Honor who? If it was somebody with a household name, yeah. Just

because he did this and everybody liked him, yada, yada. Hey, how come

members of your family or my family haven't been honored by the Senate,

why would you want them to? It's stupid IMHO.

He was/is a household name for MANY years.

Also many "regular" citizens have been recognized on the floor of both houses.

You are very much entitled to your opinion, but apparently there are many out of the 6,000,000+ other TN residents that don't share it.

I could be mistaken, but I'm pretty sure they both have to sign it again... And back before it went to the Governor, the bill sat on the Speaker of the House desk for a day or two waiting on his signature. If I get a few minutes today I'll do the research on TN veto overrides, but I'm pretty sure they must sign some official paper work before this bill becomes law. Also, keep in mind that while this was passed first in the House it didn't need to, it could in theory have been brought up in the Senate first.... So the Senate taking this up today is not technically because they were waiting on the House.

JayC - according to info I got directly from Senator Jackson, it actually DID have to go through the house first because the original Senate Bill was dropped and the Senate conformed to the house bill etc... The Senate had to wait on the House before they could take it up. You could be right about the signatures still being needed though.

This is the way it is done. They introduce guest, do memorials, do other announcements like this and recognitions at the beginning of every session. The house does it as well. Just part of it.

Yeah, can understand that, just tradition. BTDT.

Hey fallguy, it's not as household a name as Sgt. York. Unless a person

loved sports and around Nashville, I'm sure the name wouldn't mean

diddly to most Tennesseans.

Maybe not....but I'm sure more know him than you think.

But whatever....write a letter of complaint to the Speaker of the Senate for allowing it if you like.

Then why was it said it HAD to go to the House first? Was it because it was technically HB0962?

I thought the House adapted the Senate version of the bill? Because the House version had both the 11pm curfew as well as age-restriction... where as the Senate version did not? Maybe a conference report is handled differently.

I do know the TN Constitution allows either 'House' of the Legislature to take up a veto override... Now there maybe some legislature rules that dictate something else.

Or the conference report may play some role in this again since conference reports are largely a legislature rule, and I haven't read all of those rules ;)
