Mikey,

I know this may not mean much to you in your pain, but Your father lived a good, long life, and raised a fine man for a son. He's done a good job!

I will remember your family in my prayers, but surely there's a celebration in Heaven this day as God brings one of his children home.

Really sorry to hear of the loss of your father.

Been there, done that. It's the little things that get you, like when you think about asking him something and then remember that you can't any more.

My father died 28 years ago. I still miss him. Hang in there.

My father died 24 years ago. I didn't know him well but I still miss him just the same. The fact that he never got to meet ANY of his grand kids.

Anyway, my sincerest condolences go out to you. Remember, your father has simply:

"Oh, I have slipped the surly bonds of earth,

And danced the skies on laughter-silvered wings;

Sunward I've climbed, and joined the tumbling mirth

Of sun-split clouds...and done a hundred things

You have not dreamed of...wheeled and soared and swung

High in the sunlit silence. Hov'ring there,

I've chased the shouting wind along, and flung

My eager craft through footless halls of air.

Up, up, the long, delirious burning blue

I've topped the windswept heights with easy grace

Where never lark, nor even eagle flew.

And while with silent, lifting mind I've trod

The high untrespassed sanctity of space...

...put out my hand, and touched the face of God"

Sorry to hear of your loss Mike. Lost my mom and dad over 25 years ago and like Marswolf said, I still miss 'em every day. Sharon and I will keep you, your family and your dad in our prayers.

Guys... what a surprise this thread is. I had no idea... Bill, thanks for starting it. You guys are the best. Here's what's going to be in tomorrow's Tennessean:

That's a great tribute to a colorful character, Mike. You must be proud of him as I am sure he was of you. ;)

Mike:

Just saw this thread. Nice piece in the Tennessean. My deepest condolences.

May the following bring you peace:

Do not stand at my grave and weep,

I am not there... I do not sleep.

I am the thousand winds that blow...

I am the diamond glints on snow...

I am the sunlight on ripened grain...

I am the gentle autumn rain.

When you waken in the morning's hush,

I am the swift uplifting rush

Of gentle birds in circling flight...

I am the soft star that shines at night.

Do not stand at my grave and cry—

I am not there... I did not die...

Mike,

Sorry to hear about your loss. Your dad definitely sounds like an interesting character. Reading that tribute reminded me that I had read about your dad before.
