Baptist Minor Med Experience

I recently had to go to a Baptist Minor Med in the Memphis area for a drug scan to try to get a new job. I am pretty sure the place had some sort of 'no guns' (non legal) sign on one door, but I carried my little snub as usual. After being called into the back, the nurse asked me to empty my pockets! I emptied everything but my handgun and asked if I could take something back to my car (I did not want to just lay a handgun on the table). I was then informed the test would be canceled if I walked to my car, which I then showed the nurse my handgun carry permit because I wanted to be extremely discreet but tell her I was legally carrying. She replied "OH you just have a gun? I thought you had some terrible in your pockets. We have people coming in here carrying guns. You can just lay that on the tray and take your drug test." I thanked the lady, went took my drug test...came back and put everything in my pockets and thanked her for her kindness.

I was pleased with how professional she handled the situation and that I was sent on my way. Hopefully I can get a new job soon!

I had to do the same thing but I refused to leave a handgun with someone that I did not know. They allowed me to keep it in my pocket for the test. I might trust them with the money in my wallet but not with something they could kill someone with. Can you see the lawsuit coming from just handing a loaded gun to a stranger?

All of the Baptist property I have seen here in Memphis IS properly posted. It is actually one of the only proper signs I have seen. Be careful!

Baptist in Collierville is not properly posted. They just have a circle/slash sign and "No firearms allowed" next to it on the main entrance doors and on the ER doors.

Good story and good luck on the job!

She was probably just happy to deal with a legal gun in Memphis for a change. I take them off people all the time, so it's nice to find out a person has a permit.

Good point, that...

I've been to the Saint Francis in Bartlett and carried there too. Yeah I've seen some funny smoking signs at hospitals in Tennessee. The funniest was at a Baptist Medical office in Germantown by Kroger on Exeter and it said something about 'please dispose of all tobacco products before entering the property' ON THE ROAD! That was so hilarious! I had to just laugh to myself because the idiots weren't kind enough to provide a trash can.....think of some real funny person who would take them up on that sign and throw empty cig cartons, dip cans, and clean out the car ash tray as they leave Kroger to pull on Exeter when they see that sign!

I do think people are surprised when they see anyone clean cut with a gun in the Shelby County area. Most of the public has no idea about signs, gun laws, or anything, so I'm starting to figure out as long as you don't have your pants dragging the ground with your ball cap to the side...and you've got a permit in the event the police are called...and someone happens to see your gun...you are good to go here. I open carry on the way to the range and have stopped at gas stations to gas up....nothing said. I've had my handgun accidently exposed from my jacket riding over the holster and gun on Getwell and Shelby at a gas station during daytime (bad area).....gas station attendant saw but said nothing.

I OC in Memphis almost every day and have never had anyone say anything other than ask what kind of gun did I have or how to get a permit or is OCing legal. I have gotten a few comments when OCing in Southhaven/Olive Branch areas but I think its because OC is not as common in those areas.

Good job!

Baptist East is properly posted at all doors that I have seen with the exception of the ER entrance, can't remember, didn't care when I took my son in there. Big green signs.

I think it is because OC is not legal in MS.
