Bowfishing

Anybody do any? Where do you go?

I've just got my boat rigged up for the spring & I'm looking for suggestions of where to go shoot a few carp. I've fished with a few buddys on their boat below Nickajack dam, but I'm new to boats & don't have the confidence to go play on the river just yet. I'm looking for lake suggestions, if anyone has any.

It has been awhile since I have been. I used to go on the TN river. I used to fish Coy Gaither lake (I think thats what it is called) all the time and I would see tons of carp when fishing the grass beds on the side where the dock is. Try looking into that lake, not that far from you.

I'm getting into bow fishing too. Bought one of the biggest flatbottom boats you've ever seen. It was already set up for bow fishing. Had a big deck built on the front. We've since tore it off to rebuild it & make it nicer hope to have it ready in about a month or so. I'll find a pic of it to post on here. As far as where to go my brother & a few guys were doing it & they were on the tn. River going up differet creeks & shooting them.

I've only been bowfishing with my brother probably 25 years ago in a local stream, but we did no good. Below some of the dams (I'm talking about old mill dams on the Stones River) I've seen a lot of people doing this, but not off of boats.

I saw this yesterday and your bowfishing reminded me of it. If you're lucky, you might get you a shark right here in TN!!!!

Baby Shark Found in TN River

By: ABC 7 Eyewitness News Staff

State wildlife officials said they are not sure how a baby shark wound up in the Tennessee River.

A couple searching for arrowheads found the approximately foot-long shark in Decatur County this past weekend. Wildlife officer Keith Byrd said he is not sure what kind of shark it is, but said it is definitely a shark.

Finding salt water creatures in the Tennessee River is rare but not unheard of. In past years, officers have found other aquatic creatures in the river, including a blue crab. Byrd said it is likely the shark swam into Decatur County from the Gulf of Mexico.

Any lake will work, you just need to get in the coves in shallow water and start searching. Gar are fun to shoot as well, the bigger ones tend to hang out in deeper water. I only shoot during the day since my boat is not rigged up with lights.

rob, I used to bowfish a lot on Tims Ford when I was a teenager. On hot summer days I had good luck in the mouths and backwaters of feeder creeks. Woods has some good water for carp hunting up towards Prairie Plains in the river backwater and Bradly creek.

My only double was on a pair of breeding carp that were rolling through the shallow water in front of me. I was in Taylor Creek where they built that new walking trail park in Estill. Back then it was a cow pasture and the road would flood. We would walk the flooded road and shoot carp. Lots of fun.

I have also had good luck down around the boat ramp in Dechard.

My mom still lives in T-town so maybe we can get out and do some bowfishing this summer.

I have used the reels with the plastic bottles made by AMS the retriever pro. I have never had any problems with them outside of having to replace the line. Ease of use is awesome!!

GIRLS BOWFISH TOO!!! :)
