Darn, I wanted to be first.

I use crock sticks for light sharpening and a Lansky for heavy work. I never had much luck with stones as I can't maintain the proper angle.

I'm a fan of Kershaw and Case knives, am usually carrying one or the other, or both.

I use a Smith diamond pocket stone but I have found that there are a lot of people that can't sharpen a knife worth a darn with a stone. I usually end up sharpening their knives for them.

It is good to know I am not the only one who could never get it quite right. I use to get mine done at the gun shows, in fact that was the only reason I went to them years ago.

I checked a few months ago at the Jackson show and only one person was doing them and wanted 20 bucks per, I would have paid it if I had it but I didnt at the time and with 5 or six that need it I can wait or at least wait until I can find a dummies tool that I can do them with.

Too bad none of you who can do it are not closer, I have several in desparate need. One is a two tour mini K-bar that is in horrible shape after the second tour when my bud carried it. I would love to get that thing back to shaving edge but he gouged it up pretty good cutting some sort of metal with it.

But like I told him that is what is was for to USE when needed.

I use this little green thing. Dunno what it is called. Bought a couple of them at Gander Mtn. They were a couple of bucks each. Has steel on one side and bone(?) on the other. Steel sharpens and bone deburs. Knife is pretty dang sharp. I use it ever couple of days on my work knife.

i could not pay to get my knife sharpened. I abuse it way to much.

Any chance of a pic?

I'm guessing something like this.

Except in green.

The "bone" is ceramic.

I've got a couple, works pretty well if edge doesn't really need re-profiling or anything drastic.

what OS posted is the same thing. Except mine looks more tacticool.

It really works great. Pull the blade through the metal side two or three times, then through the ceramic once or twice and you have a knife with as good an edge as your knife can have.

I have an old Western Cutlery fillet knife, I sharpened it with this and I am half scared to handle the thing. I could easily shave with it.

Killer - sounds like the perfect sharpener for my Crucial (EDC) knife - nothing special, but I want it as sharp as I can get it without setting up my 'serious' sharpener every few weeks...

I will have to look for one of those....I expect the usual places Lowe's, home depot Wally's.

Sounds like it will work for all but that K-bar that needs a serious grinding, of course I know longer have mine.

Just one of the many things I sold to buy guns:rolleyes:

Mine is a Smith's, like pic.

Have them at WallyWorld, can't remember if it's Smith's or Gerber or what there.

Can't remember where I got mine.

$6 from Smith's site.

Carbide steel and ceramic slots.

Thanks guys.....now just where is that "to do" list? I'm gonna try to hit Wallys in the AM. I figure with the storm they may have some ammo, I'll check then if I remember

I really need to get educated on sharpening. I understand that some steels are best when sharpened at a 15 degree angle, and others at 20 degrees. There's more to this than I have the knowledge about.

I'm there with ya, I don't know enough about sharpening. I always take mine to the old guy at the gun shows.
