Reminds me of what I've read about the Soviet spade. The Spetsnaz (Russian special forces) used them too, apparently.

The spetsnaz soldier loves his spade. He has more faith in its reliability and accuracy than he has in his Kalashnikov automatic.

And check out this quote on Spetsnaz training.

A soldier armed with nothing but the spade is shut in a room without windows along with a mad dog, which makes for an interesting contest.

I don't know if that ever actually happened, but who knows?

I liked the "Climb" function... Where you just "Dig Function" until you can put your feet in the holes... Pretty clever though.

$18.00?!?!

It was actually $15 at Smoky Mountain Knife Works. I don't need it for anything extreme, so if it holds up for light use I'll be happy. I figured for the price I'd give it a shot. It feels pretty sturdy....I wouldn't go dig a ditch with it or anything though...lol

I'm surprised that guy still has his fingers after the way he used the sharp end without a glove or anything. Do you dig the latrine and then slice potatoes or the other way around?

Isn't that kinda the point of a "trench tool"?
