Ken Onion's a pretty well-known custom knifemaker. Apparently, the folks at w00t weren't aware of this. Today's story is pretty funny.

Woot® : I Want One!

Yes...they are aware of him. The funny description is par for the coarse with woot as they do this with every item they sell.

They also often (3 or 4 times a year) have top dollar knives like this.

Not much on woot, but his kitchen knives ARE a thing of beauty. Good all rounder's, though for my money there ARE better kitchen knives for less.

If they trip your trigger though...go for it.

As I_Like_Pie pointed out, the ad copy is just a humorous play on Ken's name and on the tragedy to onions (and carrots and zucchini and ...).

BTW, most folks don't know that Alton Brown had a hand in the design of the Shun line.

The knives are beautiful and easy to use for extended periods of time AND the $400 price is a killer price on the set, but the set from Timberline was voted as having the best bang for the buck by a panel of chiefs for Blade Magazine.

Thanks for that, the wife has been needing some new kitchen knives they will fit the bill :screwy:

She's going to love them. I picked up the Alton Brown Shun set from Woot a few years ago.None of mine are serrated however. They cut like buttah. Pick up a poly cutting board for her too though. DO NOT let these get used on those cutesy glass cutting boards. They will demolish the edge. Also, Kershaw will sharpen these for life for free to keep the 16 deg.

My small santoku has a cartoon version of him on the blade, lol. I do wish the handle was offered for left-handed people though it's not uncomfortable the way it is.

I agree with KimberChick that anything other than poly boards are a mistake to get. They won't hurt your knives and you can throw them in the dishwasher on "sterilize" and they're inexpensive.
