TGO Benefactors

Friends...

Several folks have inquired privately as to whether they could help the cause by pitching some money our way to keep TGO afloat. My answer to this point has been that while I appreciated their offer of generosity, I wanted to see if this community could thrive before accepting any sort of donation.

The good news is that TGO seems to be thriving nicely. I had suspected that there was a niche that needed to be filled and from all indications so far, I was right. Tennessee's gun owners were indeed looking for a place to gather together online and discuss the issues that are near and dear to our hearts. I'm very happy to be able to provide this forum as a service to our community! :)

As I write this, I cannot foresee any signs that TGO could not continue operating without any outside assistance for the near future. I own the server that this site is hosted on, and our connection to the Internet is stable and affordable. Our operating expenses to this point have been very low. However, there are some new features that I would like to see added as we move forward and some of them will require money. Life is funny that way I guess.

We have kicked around the idea of buying software to allow our members access to a "Reviews" system for sharing their report cards on everything from firearms, ammo, supplies, accessories and even gun shops and shooting ranges. This software will cost us $99 to purchase.

We also have plans to implement databases for prohibited carry locations in the state of Tennessee and for shooting ranges. I'm not much of a programmer, so I've asked a friend who is to give it a look and get back to me with a quote for building that for us. I'm not sure what he will charge, if anything, but I would like to be able to compensate him for his time and talent.

So, in light of all of this... I have decided to implement a "Benefactor" system whereby members who desire to do so may make donations to a general fund which will be used for doing the above and much more in the future. Being a benefactor is entirely optional. It is not required and will never be required for membership here. It is simply a way for folks who feel compelled to help out can do so. :)

In exchange for their generosity, a benefactor will be be given public credit for their kindness by having a special benefactor icon listed in their user profile. It may seem a little cheesy but it's the least we could do. Benefactors will also receive more storage space in our photo gallery. More perks will be added as we think them up. :D

If you're interested in helping, you can visit the Paid Subscriptions portion of the user control panel and go from there.

Right now we only accept PayPal but other choices may be added in the future.

Keeps us updated on this. I'm really excited about the possibility of these databases.

I am too. He's already looking at the requirements that I gave him and is going to try to draft something up. This guy is good...really good. I'm sure it will be a very useful feature if he's able to put it together for us.

No, if you go through the automated system (link in the first post or click the Benefactor icon beneath my own avatar) then it handles every bit of it for you.

Got it taken care of Tungsten! You have my support!:D

Paypal is anti-gun?

Educate me.

The Paypal policy on weapons, knives, and firearms:

http://www.paypal.com/cgi-bin/webscr?cmd=p/gen/ua/use/index_frame-outside&ed=weapons

I refuse to use it unless I have absolutely no other choice. I canceled my Paypal subscription a while back, the account that I'd had since 2001 because of learning about this policy. If they're going to be that anti-gun, I'm not going to permit them to have any of my money.

PayPal is owned by eBay, which has the same policy. Complaints should go right to the top -to eBay.

Btw, it is possible that PayPal accepting money for firearms transactions without a FFL transfer agent would be against federal law. May be mistaken, but its possible that no PayPal-like entity can transfer money regarding firearms purchases.

Not sure of this, pure speculation.
