New target stand

Recommended Posts

I shoot mainly at ORSA, and when I go to ORSA the plinking range is my favorite place. The irritation has been searching the recycling bin for plastic bottles to shoot at and cardboard boxes to post targets on. As a solution I built this. I'm into it for about $20. It's made of 3/4" PVC (2' and 1' sections) and all the joints are friction fit. I can pull the top off of the base and lay it flat into the back of my truck for transport or disassemble the whole thing. The four one foot sections sticking off the side are for hanging bottles or whatever to shoot. Critiques welcome. Oh, and the $20 investment did get me several extra sections of 2' and 1' pipe in the highly unlikely event I ever accidentally shoot one of the posts. :puke:

Very nice. I was looking at building one myself. This helps me to determine which way I want to go on the build (may be able to incorporate some type of spinner where the bottles hang?). Did you purchase all the fittings and pipe for $20 and if so where did you get it......the Depot or Lowes?

Looks good Kong. I've been meaning to put something together like this.

Like FordGuy said, it's best not to glue it together. Once you let someone else shoot at it, pieces will need replacing. It's amazing how poorly some people run a gun. :-\

Another idea for a PVC stand I have seen done is to use a little larger diameter PVC and cut out the inner section of pipe on the vertical posts then use some polystyrene insulating panels as the target holder. Just cut out a rectangular piece of the insulation panel and slide it down into the slots in the PVC. They're easily replaceable and just use thumbtacks to hold paper to them.

Nice stand but what kind of backstop is that? Looks like standard sheetrock.

It's not a backstop. It's just the wall down in my basement where I put it together. I shoot out at ORSA.

I did take it out Monday and it performed as I'd hoped. I do need to get a couple of sandbags for weight on the base in the event of a windy day.

Sorry, I guess in my head it was funnier than it was on a computer screen.

Yah, here's one similar, uses wood uprights, so you can staple cardboard on.

Doesn't have the nifty side hangers though.

Honestly, with this idea, one could probably do the swing arm game like on Top Shot Finale.... You have my wheels turning... I'm gonna make one.

You could always fill the base with sand and glue it together, IOW instead of taking it apart right at the base, put about a 3" upright with a coupler to attach the rest of it to. then you could fill the base with sand, cap the pipe with glue, put on the coupler and then be back in business ready to place the uprights in place.
