Remington UMC Ammo?

Has anyone had problems with the Remington UMC bulk pistol ammo?

I have a new Colt 1911 and have had a few fte's, 6 or 7 out of fifty

No problems with 9mm. Have not bought any 45 yet.

Maybe its the clean looking packaging, but I've always held UMC to a higher standard than Federal or even Winchester ammo. I have not had any issues at all with it.

I have! But not lately, as I've refused to buy UMC ammo for a couple of years now. The last time I bought UMC ammo, I experienced about 1 out of every 5 or so that were either loaded way too weak or way too hot. All the other Remington ammo (except Rem 22lr value packs) has been fine. I dunno what's been up with Remington the last few years. :-\

Have not bought any in a few years but the 40 S&W was not consistant when I used it last.

How new is your pistol? If it hasn't been completly broken in yet that may be the cause of the problem. As far as cheaper ammo goes I just take it with a grain of salt.

Me too, until I have to dig a squib out of my 1911. I have a bunch of UMC that I haven't used yet. I've never had a problem with their center fire stuff.

Eww I haven't had one stick on me since I was firing really cheap surplus crap in my old SKS. The UMC stuff has had pretty decent results for me so far however.

The Colt is new, 100 rounds shot

Probably not the gun, unless it's the typical extractor tweakiness you see with some 1911's. It's easy enough to find out by just running some different ammo.

I've probably shot at least a couple thousand rounds of UMC in 9mm, .38sp, and .357mag over the last couple years.

Never a misfire, the 9mm feeds fine in XDs (what doesn't?), Kahr, and even Hi-Points.

Whether it's "dirtier" than other lower end products who knows. It's all pretty dirty - that's why we clean guns.

I don't think UMC is dirty enough to gum up a 1911 in 100 rounds. I've seen some bullets set back in cheap winchester ammo, but never with UMC. The stuff I have now looks good.

EDIT: Just reread the OP. Bulk, as in loose in a box? Could have been subjected to one of those "hail mary's" that the UPS guys like to do on occaision. Dinged up brass can make it stick in the chamber

I stopped buying .40S&W UMC for my Glocks (!) as it had failure rates probably 10x what I saw from the TN Cartridge Co reloads I buy in bulk for less money.

FWIW, no other ammo has caused any noticeable issues with my Glocks...

Might want to check the length of the bullet. I had two Value Pack 250 of UMC 9mm which contained shells that had inadequate crimp (I assume).

You could literally push the bullet down into the casing with your fingers. Attemping to feed them would compress them and I'd get a FTF.

Wasn't just me, I saw others with either green or yellow box UMC that had the same problem.

Wrote Remington, and they responded telling me they'd send a lable so I could send the product back. I'm still waiting.

Remington is off my ammo list now.

Have a look. Center is a Blazer of correct dimensions.

FTF's mainly. Bullet setback seemed to be an issue, but FTF (bad primers) were he primary issue.

At today's shoot, I was trying to find out if any of my .380 target ammo could be counted on as back-up defensive ammo with my Walther PPK. UMC and Winchester target and Winchester Defensive (I believe). Back and forth among all, and it got to the point that the UMC's left my slide 1/2" from full battery return. This was consistent. Got to the point that I shot 3 or 4 mags of defensive just to see if it needed to clear its throat. No problems with that stuff. Won't buy that stuff.

Went through 500 rounds with just one failure to fire (bad primer?) Works as good as anything else and is brass that makes for cheap reloading

Remington is the last ammo choice for me. Only slightly ahead of not having ammo. I find it extremely dirty.

Gee whiz! I've got about 1500 .45 acp, 1000 9mm and 1000 .223's. I've probably shot 2-3000 rds. of UMC and WWB with no FTF's. You all have me worried now. I guess I need to shoot up what I have on hand.
