First off let me say that I am in no way affiliated with this business......Here's a bit of a treat for those of us on the East side of TN. There is a new indoor range opening up in Maryville. Gunny's Indoor Shooting Range. They will be opening sometime in mid Feburary or 2008. You can check out their website at www.thegunny.com. For those that are interested, you can save $80.00 dollars on a pre-opening membership special. Even though this business is about 45 min. away from my house, it's only about 5 min. away from where I work. Lunch time baby!!!

Here's the pre-opening price and benefits.

Here's the standard price after opening and the range rules.

Excellent. An indoor range that allows rifles. My evil black rifles have been sitting woefully unused for the past few months. I might just have to check this one out. Thanks.

Gunny's Rules

Please familiarize yourself with these rules before utilizing the range.

Eye and ear protection must be worn at all times while on the range.

No one under the influence or suspected of being under the influence of alcohol or drugs will be allowed on the

range.

No pregnant females(1) or people subject to seizures are permitted on the shooting range.

A maximum of three people are allowed per shooting bay.

Only paper targets may be used on the range. Non-paper targets must be purchased from the range. We reserve

the right to prohibit targets we deem offensive or unsafe.(2)

Use the appropriate size target, placed at eye level, to ensure that your shot strikes the backstop and not the floor,

ceiling, or target carrier.

Shoot only at your target.

No one is permitted forward of the firing line (the bench) at any time.

Always keep firearms pointed downrange and unloaded until ready to use.

Treat every gun as if it is loaded, and keep your finger off the trigger until you are ready to shoot.

Do not lay a firearm down on the bench rest unless it is unloaded.

Do not hand a loaded firearm to another person.

Use only the correct ammunition for your firearm.

Do not remove a jammed, or malfunctioning firearm from the firing point. Lay the gun down on the bench with the

barrel pointed down range. Then ask range personnel for assistance.

When finished firing, unload, case, or holster your gun before leaving the shooting point.

Please pick up only your own brass that is behind the firing line. Never extend any part of your body beyond the

firing line to retrieve brass(3). Do not disturb other shooters while picking up your brass, or pick up brass from another

shooting point while someone is shooting even if the brass belongs to you.

Be sure your firearm is safe to operate, and know how to use it safely.

All firearms not on the firing line must be unloaded and in their cases.

Food, tobacco, and beverages are prohibited on the range at all times.

1) No Pregnant Ladies Allowed??? How are they gonna defend themselves if they aint no way of practicing??? Gotta defend their unborn!

2) There goes my custom made target of Hitlary Clinton, Britney Spears or Bin Laden since it could be labeled as offensive....

3) Coal Creek Armory has told me several times not to worry about any spent brass laying around beyond the firing point that they would take care of it during closing times...so I never bother to do that.

Also another note, glad there's another indoor range around here now.

Really it's their range and their rules. However, referring to your #3, I'm fairly certain that they mean if you wish to collect your brass for reloading purposes after shooting, you may do so but only the brass that's yours and only behind the firing line. Also, they may be worried about lead exposure to the unborn. Just a way to protect themselves from lawsuits.

I've emailed one of the owners with a few questions of my own, maybe you should do the same if you have any. They are a new range, but I don't know how new to the range business they are. Maybe they would like some constructive criticism would be helpful during initial start up.

I've also invited him to join us here at TGO.

and yes, it is good to have another indoor range in E. TN. 049.gif

About picking up only your brass..

Do you really want somebody standing there collecting your brass as you shoot? I doubt they will care if a person respectfully waits until you leave and then they pick up your brass, but they don't want vultures there.

I see his point...but how many people are willing to be patient til you finish your rounds and pick up the brasses around you while your reloading? None...thats why I dont bother and have been told not to worry about it by staff.

If they have this rule, and somebody is bothering you by hovering over you and grabbing every piece of brass as you use it, management has given warning and is easily able to ask the person to stop.

If you leave all your brass, pack up and leave, I doubt management would be upset about somebody else picking up your brass.

I don't shoot at public ranges often. Do people really just stand there and pick up each shell as you empty it?

Maybe I'm misunderstanding something here...?

I think I left out a word that should have made sense....

Let me requote my post...

I grew up in Tazewell, and I'd have to say that you'd have the corner nitch if you started up an indoor range of your own.

I can be there in about two minutes. Thats not including the time it takes to get from the house to the car. LOL

I am really glad that there is one opening since I have been shooting at a place towards the mountains. I didn't want to get a membership at Coal creek because I try not to go to K town unless I have too.

This will be way too cool.

I think I will drive by there today so maybe I can see how far along they are.

I am really excited about having one that close. So I will gladly keep everyone informed on anything that I learn.

Maybe once they open we can have a TGO get together there.

I don't have any idea what the cost would be, but I'd sure like to find out. I wonder what all is involved. Property, building the range, I'm sure some type of liability insurance (if you can find any). I wonder what all is involved in the back stop of an indoor range. What keeps a stray bullet from bouncing off the floor and going thru the ceiling, or exterior walls? Lots of stuff to think about, but i have no answers. Maybe some of you do.

I just got back from checking out the soon to be new indoor shooting range. I took a look inside and there is absolutely no way that they will be open in february. I talked to one of the owners son and he said that they were now looking at March as the opening.

It is in the basement of an antique store. I don't know if the antique store will last. Looks to me like the shooting might shake the china right off the shelves. LOL and it is in a fairly old building.

When I saw the inside it in no way resembled a shooting range. It looked like a basement under construction.

If anyone is looking for it once they open it is on Old Knoxville Hwy (Some people still consider that stretch of road to be old Broadway.

If you come off of Hwy 140 (Pellesippi) SP? You can't go any further than this because it is the end of the Hwy. Turn right and head towards Maryville. I believe you will go through three stop lights. After the third light there will be a straight away with small business's along the side. THe road will curve slightly to the right.RIght before the curve You will go past a large church on the right. THat is when you should begin looking to your left. The antique store will be on your left. There will also be a JJ's video. You turn between the two buildings to park. There is another stop light ahead and I have found it to usually be red so you should have time to locate the range.THere is also a Veterinary clinic on the right that you can use for a marker. The entrance will be in the rear of the building.

We have (had) an indoor range in Johnson City. They open and closed three times. Last time a fire shut them down, but it was only a matter of time before that event. I imagine it is available for a reasonable price.

The range can only be part of the business. You need some good gun sales and promotion of events to make a go of it. In short, you have to give the customer what he wants.

I looked into a indoor range back in 94 the insurance was out of sight, plus the building and regs. like lead free and exhaust fans. Out door is the only way to go ,private club no insurance woes and sign a waiver. Besides outside is so much better. I love TAC 2 .
