Magpul Angled Fore-Grip (AFG)

Recommended Posts

Last night I bought the Magpul Angled Fore-Grig. I like the look but I'm not sure I like the feel. How many of you have this installed on your evil black rifles? Does it take some "getting used to"? Has anyone gone from a vertical style hangrip to the AFG?

I guess I will wait and see until I put a few rounds down-range.

I have one of these on my mid-length build but couldn't really see using it on a short barrel. I think in order to really get the most out of the design you need to have it way out near the end of the hand guard where your supporting arm is at full extension.

+1 I would definitely slide it out a little more!

I put mine on my M4 while recently at NTC. I also think that on a longer rifle it would be more advantageous. I plan on having a Mid-Length rifle so I will keep it and put it on that. That being said I did get used to holding it that way and even after going back to a normal vfg I seemed to automatically take that sort of grip. Bottom half of palm on the VFG and top half on the rail.

Thanks for the input guys.

I will say I tried it and do not like it compared ot a VFG. I have both on my AR at the moment trying to force myself to like the AFG coolaid but I can't seem to.

I think this touches on part of the issue. I got caught up in a tacticool (impulse) moment. One of those "hey, I don't have one of those."

I normally shoot it with by simply grasping the rail. As I said in my initial post, some mandatory range time should quickly identify whether or not I keep it, or put it on my son's mid-length AR. I also noticed I am unable to operate my flashlight. Maybe Magpul needs can add a pressure-switch option on future models. Do they have a "suggestion box"?

I have emailed them several times with various questions about various products. All I ever get is the same form letter response, "Thanks for contating Magpul, yada, yada, yada". After about the 10th email I just quit asking questions. They do make some very innovative products but it seems they do not want or do not go looking for feedback from their customers.

I like the AFG's a lot more than any VFG's myself but I also agree with what a couple of the others have said, it needs to be mounted further out, on a rifle that short I'd go out as far as the rail would allow.

Also, try to ignore how it feels/handles around your house/garage/shop/etc. and run some live fire strings against a VFG if you can, think you'll find the AFG makes for better accuracy and better control over the weapon under real live fire (JMHO anyways).

Move the flashlight to the other side. You may be able to position the light/grip such that you can reach the tail cap with your thumb.

NOooooo, I fear change. I shot a few rounds yesterday. Its definately a new feeling using that grip. I was hoping to move the grip forward, but forgot a screwdriver.

I picked up an AFG at a recent gun show - I haven't shot with it yet, but I really like the way it feels so far. I agree with other posts - mine is as far forward as I can get it.

I have been kicking it around myself for a while. I've also tried to read as much as I can from carbine users. One of the most helpful comments I've seen... you need to extend the stock to help optimize the wrist angle with a carbine rail. Can't find a consensus at all. You're either gonna like it, or it will wind up in the box. There's more of a consensus one midi rails.

Being a total Magpul whore already, it's about the only thing left that will fit one my rifle. I have a Daniel Defense oval rail package on mine, so it will probably feel better than a fat rail.
