Got my first Ruger P95 today

I was in a local pawn shop today, owned by a friend of mine when he showed me what I believe was a good bargain...& I nearly always miss out on bargains. He just sat out a P95DC Ruger manufacture dated 1997, new in the box & never fired. It came from the family of a man who had purchased lots of guns and put them away to collect and recently passed away! It needs cleaned because the factory grease is a little thick, but is otherwise in perfect condition. I've only shot one P95 before and always wanted one since. Finally got to bring one home today. I took these photos when I got back this evening. Hope she turns out to be a good one.

Nice gun, but maybe the extra grease is for break in. check with somebody that knows more about it before you remove it, because if its never been fired, its there for a reason. also you got a very good deal

I never thought about that. I've got the outside all clean and shiny, but haven't pulled it completely apart yet. Thanks for the suggestion.

I have a 2ooo model, just like it. But yoooou got a much better deal than I, congrats.

Mine is one fine shooter, sure yours will be too.

Thanks. I hope to try it out soon. I've heard a few negative things about barrel steel hardness in the first production models, but most things I hear are positive. (You can always find some good and bad in every gun made) Now all I need is to find some 15 round mags for it and go to the range.

My first P95 - a wedding present from my grandfather in law - is just like yours, right down to being the 'DC' model and only coming with one, ten round magazine. I recently traded my KelTec P11 for a second one because I didn't want to carry the one that was a gift. The second one is blued and is a newer model with the small 'rail'. It is a decocker/safety model and it came with two, fifteen round magazines. I would really rather have had another DC only model but I am not sure if Ruger is making the newer version in DC only. Besides, I got it used so pretty much had to take it as it is. I basically use the safety as if it were just a decocker, though.

The older one - the one that is just like yours - has eaten everything I have fed it from 115 grain ball up to 147 grain WWB JHPs. The only thing it ever 'balked' on was some no-name 115 grain ball that came in a white box with simply '9mm Parabellum' (or maybe it was '9mm Luger') printed on it in black. There was red around the primers so I suspect it might have been intended as SMG ammo with harder primers. A few of those failed to ignite. Luckily, being DA/SA means the Ruger has second strike capability and the few that didn't ignite the first time fired on second strike. I love that, unlike some pistols/manufacturers that warn against using one type of ammo or another, the P95 manual basically says that it can fire anything that meets industry pressure standards and that brass, aluminum or steel cased are all fine.
