Anyone tried adapting a mag.

Forgive me if this topic has already been discused. I was wondering about trying to make a low capacity mag hold more rounds. I've got a Beretta .40 pistol that came with two police mags that restricts them to 10 rounds. Most of the normal mags in this caliber hold 11 or 12 rounds. As far as I can tell the only difference in the magazines is, the police mags have a longer follower. It sticks about an extra inch down inside the spring. If I simply trim the follower, will I run into major feed problems. I'm just talking about enough to get one or two more rounds into it. I don't know if they use different springs or not.

Yea, its been done. I know the makarov folks like to pare down their mags to hold one more. It really depends on the mag at hand whether it can be done, but its definately possible for some types. You might also just buy a higher cap mag for the gun; these either have the regular follower (no 10 round limitation) or extend the base of the gun, should exist.

I bought a couple of 12 round mags too, and they look exactly the same, but without the extended follower. I guess the only concern would be spring tension. Thanks.

you could just buy a replacement follower.

I checked and it's about as cheap to buy a whole new magazine. I may just sell these and put the money into more factory high cap. mags. I just bought some high capacity .40 mags direct from Beretta for $22.95 each. :hiding: Beretta's having a big sale on magazines right now. Thanks.
