.22 rifle failure to feed

Recommended Posts

I have a Winchester model 190 that I've had for a long time and haven't shot it a lot. I bought it new. Occasionally it won't chamber the next round catching it by the projectile and putting a crease in it. Any suggestions on how I can fix it. Thanks. Charles

Try polishing the feed ramp or using different ammunition. 22 guns in general tend to be picking about the type of ammunition they will take. Hit your local sporting good dept and pick up a couple boxes of every type of 22lr they offer. Clean between ammo types to make sure it isnt the gun getting dirty and causing your problems.

Edit: After looking at pictures of it...my roommate in college had one of those things and it jammed all the darned time. We ended up polishing lots of the internals to get it to feed more reliably. It still would have problems occasionally, but it was a dramatic improvement. Try CCI ammo, IIRC, his gun did the best with it.

I have a Model 63 Winchester, experienced the same problem when I got it. It was relatively clean, tried running some Remington .22 LR through it and nearly every one jammed or stovepiped.

Bought a box of CCI's and it chugs through them all day long with no malfunctions. I bought a box of Ely's to make sure and it performs just as well with them.
