Smoke grenades are not considered DD's. You can get them fairly easily, actually. In fact, I had a couple for sale at the last pope show in Franklin.

Frag grenades and 40mm rounds for M-79's/M-203's are Destructive Devices, but they are legal to own. Eah one does require a $200 tax stamp, in addition to the cost of the grenade. It's not too difficult to get 40mm rounds, you just need to know where to look. Getting a hand grenade is not as easy, though. In fact, it might be easier to build one yourself, using an ATF Form 5320.1, or Form 1. You had just better be ready to show BATFE a detailed plan for how you'll be building it, and you might want to be able to articulate a pretty good reason for doing so. Part of your build plan will need to detail where you'll get the chemicals / explosives, and what type of detonating system you'll be using.

Are there any transferable military grenades, in all my time on the boards I have never seen one for sale. I have seen some decent 40mm stuff, I haven't found any 40mm frag grenades either though so maybe I just don't know where to look. I would be interested in grenade pricing if there are any available.

ETS,wouldnt one need a type 9 FFL for that?

From what I've gathered, a Type 01 FFL / Class 3 SOT, or Type 07 FFL / Class 2 SOT can do a limited number of DD transfers. How many is "a limited number" is where my information is lacking. One BATFE employee told me that such an FFL / SOT can do one DD transfer. Is that one at a time, one a year, or just one ever? I don't know. As far as I know, there are no Type 09 or 10 FFL's in the State of Tennessee.

Because they have lots of BOOM! That was my favorite day of basic training. Would love to relive it.

I would think you'd be inviting a visit from your local swat team.....but that's jmho......

I can just see the headlines now....or the 6pm news......:D

Neero is correct. They are a DD, require an ATF Form 4 and $200 tax for each grenade.

But the kicker is that you have to find them and there aren't any to be found so........

I have been told by someone who owns a "repeating DD" that the shells of certain DDs are the actual DD therefore once they are registered they may be reloaded as "demonstrators" as long as they are not actual explosives. I don't know if this is true, but that is the SOP for the demonstrators at KCGC and other machine gun shoots.
