Am I stupid for wanting a 7.62 upper?

I have a craving for a 7.62x39 upper. I have been shooting my SKS lately, and got to thinking about an AR platform. I know I could probably get an AK for the same, or even less, than the upper, but I like the versatility of being able to change uppers to use both .223 and 7.62. I have read that there were some feed issues with the 7.62 at first, but this seem to have been corrected. Anyone have any thought or advice?

If you just want to blast using high capacity mags get and AK or you could try to get a high cap mag to work in an AR. But if you can live with 15 rounds there is no need to worry about mags. I built an AR in 7.62x39 and used a 20 round straight mag without issue. It was a older mag without the anti tilt follower which might be the culprit in some of the feeding issues in some of the 7.62x39 AR rifles.

The rifle I built had a .308 bore rather than a .311 bore. That made reloading easier and honestly I never had issues shooting the factory AK ammo either. It wasn't as accurate as my reloads but no factory ammo will be as accurate as reloads. I used it as a test bed for heavy, subsonic loads in the 7.62x39 and it worked very well.

I have a 7.62 AR.... it was my first AR and knowing what I know now I would have just got an AK. I had to buy an after market bolt just to get the thing to fire reliably. Mags cost much more, I only by C products. I have had no feed issues with mine though and it's nice to dress up the platform and shoot cheap ammo but an AK would have been cheaper and worked much better I think .
