Blackpower Sub-Forum... yea or nay?

Recommended Posts

Speaking of this topic, not the typo'd topic. Are people of color very active in shooting sports? Not crime mind you but going to the range, punching paper etc?

I don't go to public ranges so I really have no idea. I pretty much only see white people in gun shops or at the Gander mtn and Bass Pro Shops.

Over the last couple years I've been working on a hard-line liberal coworker of mine, who is black, to help him understand the idea of rights and the hobby of shooting...

He bought his first handgun last month, and enjoys going to the range with me. :)

That's just one, so of course there's still a disparity... but it's nothing that can't be corrected with more of our participation in education and guidance of those we each know, one on one. I think the lack of minorities in the shooting sports says more about the willingness of those of us in the 'gun culture' to invite them than it does of the minorities, which, to put it plainly, are largely a product of the media slant aimed at them. That's just what I gathered from my recent convert.

I agree with the general sentiment here that we don't see minority representation in the shooting sports equal to their representation in the general population. Of course, this applies to women as well, and they are the majority gender.

Lots of issues here: culture, demographics, access, comfort zone, etc. I agree also that it is imperative that we incease minority/female participation in the shooting sports. If 90-something percent of active shooters are middle-aged white guys, that is not a good sign. The untapped potential audience is HUGE, both in economic impact and support for gun rights.

Wish I knew more about how to solve this problem.
