Rivergate Mall in Nashville

Has anyone been to Rivergate mall recently ? Especially on a weekend night ? Well my wife and me were out on a date togather without the kids . We went out for supper and thought we would stroll through Rivergate mall to walk around and enjoy not having the kids with us. Well wrong move !!! I swear that the majority of the people there were juveniles. My wife says about 80% looked to be under 18 and looked like TROUBLE just waiting to happen . They were all just congragating everywhere. In the aisles and all over the place . Blocking the ways for you to walk , running , grabbing their girlfriends butt's in front of everyone and using all kinds of vulgar language.Pants hanging down near their knees where their underwear was showing ,,, good Lord! That is the way and I think the reason that Hickory Hollow Mall went out of buisness. It seems that all the thugs have went to Rivergate mall.

We did our shopping and got out of their . I hadnt been there in a year and I have never seen it that bad. Anyways I just couldnt believe how crappy it was.

I was there working security Saturday night and it was rough. I'm hoping a new policy will be in place soon to keep the juveniles out after a certain time without an adult. Bad thing is most of those thugs don't even live around there they come from north Nashville and antioch by bus and parents just drop them off. I'm also waiting to see when Opry Mills opens up again they will probably go back there. Friday nights aren't bad at all.

Someone better start working on getting it under control or it will turn into another Hickory Hollow. I doubt those punks spend anything but maybe the at food court and probably walk out with merchandise that was not paid for. It would only help the overall business to run them out. I'm in S. Nashville and probably haven't been in Rivergate more than 2 or 3 times since it opened.

I was pass the MCD on Rivergate about 9p one night and there was a "flashmob" of younger kids (under 18) from what I can tell running across from the MCD. I swear there was about 50 kids and traffic had to stop just to avoid hitting someone.

AND OF COURSE Rivergate mall has a NO GUN posting so we just take and spend our money at the Sears in the Boro.

I don't go to malls. It is just not worth the effort (besides, its so "'80s". Surely better economic models are to be had). Even JC Penny's in Knoxville is getting it. Their newest store near Turkey Creek is stand-alone.

Now if the developers could figure out better traffic management for economic areas like Turkey Creek. Even that is at my limit.

I'm with R_Bert. Malls generally suck as do their prices. The only time I go to one is if I have to hit something like the Apple store or something that generally doesn't exist outside of a mall. Otherwise I'll try to support a local business and if that isn't possible I'll go the Internet.

From what I've seen Rivergate is on the slow decline just like Hoodlum Hollow....but METRO is going to REHAB Hoodlum Hollow and turn it into a college campus...LMAO...right sure they are. They even have a MNPD recruitment station there. I use to go there a lot when I first moved here 14 years ago...but unless you're packin' your own heat in DEEP concealment its best to just stay away.

Firstly, I do not condone carry in any location that is posted or prohibited. Infractions could cost me monetarily and loss of HCP.

Secondly, I try very, very hard not to go to a mall for shopping or entertainment. Stand-alone stores are what have replaced the strip-mall concept and for the time being, seem to be okay.

Thirdly, I try not to go anywhere I can't carry. Legally or otherwise.

And finally, I will go where I need to go. Take from that what you will.

Stopped going there regulally to shop a few years ago, went there 1 evening during December Christmas shopping.

Best way to avoid trouble is to stay away from it, Rivergate use to be nice, now the problems just get bused in.

You can witness the same kind of thing beginning to happen at Cool Springs Galleria. I have heard some people say they don't like to go in through the food court because of all the gangsta wannabees that hang out there on the weekends.

My wife knows that the mall is one place I refuse to go.

This is long overdue, but better late than never.

First of all to clarify what I am going to say my son is 17 & has never been dropped at any mall but I don't agree with a blanket rule that basicly says all kids under 18 are trouble makers which is what this rule is in reality. My son has his own money & has spent quite a bit in the mall but he said he will not spend anymore of his money in any mall owned by this company. I also support his decision & we will also BOYCOTT this mall. If they don't want my son who has never been in any trouble in the mall shopping without us beside him they don't get any of our money anytime. Although we have never just dropped him at mall we don't require that he stays with us every minute in a store either.

This is no different than all of us HCP carriers that say we wont go in a place that has a GunBuster Sign IMO since it has been said many times GunBuster signs only affect the honest not the bad people.

This new rule will not make this mall safer just like Anti Gun companies aren't safer with GunBuster Signs.

As a business owner whose business is in the Rivergate Mall area, its hard for me not to support this.

I don't consider this "Rule/Regulation" like that have a GunBuster sign ...

Gun Ownership ... Gunbuster signs .... HCP Friendly places, etc... all have nothing to do with business in general. This rule/regulation does. If a large group of Teenagers (looking like gangbangers or otherwise) camped out in front of my business during business hours, you best believe the cops would be called. I'm sorry, as a business owner, I don't have the patience for kids hanging out, doing absolutely nothing but being unruly and loitering.

Granted, you will have teenagers like your son that go there to shop ... Unfortunately, 98% of teenagers in the mall do nothing but loiter - no matter what time of day.

If I was the mall owner, or small business owner in this mall, I would back it 100%. When business owners see no other options, they move out. When there are no businesses within a mall, the mall shuts down. A bad mall with a bad rep = disaster ... Not only for all the small business owners within the mall, but also for the area.

You make some good points but businesses also shut down due to lack of paying customers which is what my son was & we were. I personally spend a few thousand in a year as we always have.

Me & my wife as teenagers were part of the group of kids that started the parking lot which in return for we all agreed to stop cruising. This worked for years but there was some that were not part of the agreement & still cruised. Oh well my family will just go other places since there is plenty of competition for the mall.

Also GunBuster Signs are in reality a rule since owners do not have to post but instead choose to post IMO that is.

The mall has been a teenage magnet since it was built & there have been many attempts in the past to curb them but there was a time when they harassed all teenagers & it back fired because sales actually dropped off. If they don't really want teenagers around get rid of all stores that cater to them.

If you really believe this rule will make the mall safer you must think all the new law enforcement & non law enforcement agencies that harass citizens daily are making things safer? I know you will say it isn't the same thing but it really is if you just think of it.

Oh & this rule will not have the least effect on gangs although it will effect kids that actually get parents to purchase from the stores. Which is in actuality as I said the same as gun free zones saying it is for safety, what a crock.

They just announced a weekend curfew...

Reported by Jennifer Johnson

NASHVILLE, TN (WSMV) -

A local mall has had enough with teenagers who wander around every weekend unsupervised, and now management is taking a dramatic step to end it.

Rivergate Mall is often jam-packed on Friday and Saturday nights, but the crowd is often mostly made up by teens who are there, not to buy anything, but rather to socialize.

Mall officials have announced that beginning in May, they will implement a youth escort policy, in which anyone under age 18 would have to be escorted by someone over the age of 21 after 6 p.m. each Friday and Saturday.

It would not apply to those teens who work in the mall. They will be issued identification so management will know who is supposed to be there alone and who isn't.

Officials are hoping this policy change will weed out those young people who are simply using the mall as an after-hours hangout, and they hope it would also help cut down on crime and the fights that have broken out in the mall.

Hickory Hollow is the only other area mall with a similar policy against unaccompanied minors. Hickory Hollow had problems with loitering before adding the policy, but some say the crowds of young people hanging out there may have contributed to the mall's steady decline in tenants.

Personally I think it's kind of a crock. I'm in my mid-late twenties and can vividly remember going to the the mall just to hang out and B.S with my buddies as a teenager. Where we loud, vulgar and obnoxious? You bet. IMO better there than hanging out walking the streets or as has been mentioned cruising the streets behind the wheel. Safer too.

These days it takes quite alot of incentive to get me in one of those places but that has alot less to due with kids being kids and alot more to do with poor selection and pricing than being nervous about the criminal atmosphere real or perceived.

A private business has the right to make decisions I don't agree with but this just adds one more place I won't be spending my money with. I already have a hard time with the mall in Cool Springs, it's one thing to have a dress code another thing altogether to selectively choose who has to follow it which I have seen first hand.

Opry Mills? Don't get me started, I just hope those Metro officers are working on their time and not enforcing a privately mandated dress code on the tax payers dime.

Pretty soon the ever popular Wally world parking lot will be banned as well. Then it's back to the cruising for the young folks.

Re the teenager curfew... It seems we are unable to solve a problem in this country without creating a rule, law or legislation that applies to everyone, whether guilty or innocent. Arrest the little b....rds that are causing problems and make their life, and their parent lives miserable for longer than a day. Leave the kids who are just hanging out alone. I guess its too much work to sort them out.

Businesses exist to make money. Obviously the mall believes this will attract patrons that come to spend money that would otherwise be put off by crowds of loitering teens. Private property; their choice. If this policy backfires and there is a significant drop in sales expect policy to change, but somehow I don't think it will. I fully respect the right of a business owner to make money as much as I respect the rights of someone that takes their money elsewhere.

And this is why folks like me that have a family and large disposable income choose to order from Amazon then go to the mall and have our kids inundated with loud, vulgar and obnoxious teens. You can't see why businesses might adopt such policies?
