Surplus M16 parts kits?

What are you wanting?

Just items you will likely need to repair a gun? Or to build a gun from surplus parts?

Sarco for the longest time had M-16 parts kits with everything except the lower receiver the the F/A FCG parts.

Midway sells a very complete repair kit that has everything you will likely need to replace in the first 5,000-10,000 rounds of use.

Also, building a F/A M-16 is against the law. But using M-16 parts in a semi auto gun is perfectly legal.

I want an A2. I am trying to decide if I should build one or buy one. I don't have an unlimited budget, so I have to try to get the best value I can find. I want one that is as close to the original configuration as possible - triangular hand guards, 20" barrel, A2 stock and all if possible. I can't really afford an SP1, but I wish I could. Any suggestions?

Are you sure about that?

A FA bolt is ok

I think if you have a AR15 and install M16 FCG it's a NO NO, whats stopping you if you install a DIAS, now if you had a RDIAS your gtg..

As long as the gun remains semi auto you are perfectly legal.

Now possession of the actual FA parts to convert to full auto might get you into trouble. It is more than just a special trigger and hammer to convert it into a FA. It is those additional parts that make a MG a MG. But those additional parts needed to turn an AR into a MG will not physically install into a standard lower. It requires some machining that I will not go into detail here. It isn't difficult to do but once you have done the machining the lower is considered a MG even if no parts are installed or if semi auto parts are installed.

Now possession of the actual FA parts to convert to full auto might get you into trouble. I think BATF calls that constructive intent.. It is more than just a special trigger and hammer to convert it into a FA. Two more trigger parts. It is those additional parts that make a MG a MG. But those additional parts needed to turn an AR into a MG will not physically install into a standard lower. there are several old pre-ban lowers out there "low shelf lowers" require nothing to use a RDIAS other then the M16 FCG and I think today there are1-2 gun manufactors that still make them . It requires some machining that I will not go into detail here. It isn't difficult to do but once you have done the machining the lower is considered a MG even if no parts are installed or if semi auto parts are installed.

Milling maybe, drilling deffinitely.

Buy an A2 style AR. There are a few different ones out there with different price ranges. I don't know why anyone would want a beat up M16 parts kit. Most are used and abused, if they were not the military would have still kept using them. IMO it is not worth buying, just buy a regular AR that has the A2 upper and live happily.

Negative. That's just what over cautious people have been waxing poetic about for a while now. And then there's the argument b/w constructive intent and constructive possession, etc.

No more constructive than having an "auto" BCG or multiple sub 16" uppers for one NFA'ed lower and having other Title 1 rifles around.

Do you have an unregistered RDIAS laying around? A lower that has been drilled/machined for a sear? (also, you're referring to the carrier, not bolt)

It's not hard to make a lower capable of accepting things......it is (provided you're not an 02/07) illegal. Strictly having extra parts in your possession is not illegal. It's not the trigger that makes an AR capable of F/A&Burst. I'm sure many people unknowingly have the materials in our households to make bombs but we're not doing anything illegal, correct?

I may not be doing a good job of explaining myself with this rambling......

Sorry, yes I mean the carrier. I'm just used to calling everything the bolt versus the BCG. My mistake. I know all of Spike's lowers are low-shelf, at least I think they are so you can drop in the RDIAS but past that I don't know what has to be done other than the trigger group and I'm assuming a pin to hold the sear in place.

I do understand what you're saying though

You are right, a low shelf lower and then the hole for the sear pin is all the lower needs to be FA. And it is that hole that WILL get you in trouble even if you do not have the other parts.

In the same way there were some AK style weapons that were sold as semi but had the additional hole drilled for FA. The ATF made the importer fix the problem.

I think all the op is wanting is a "period correct" gun, not an illegal weapon. Sometimes you can find one

at a gun show. I haven't seen many for sale. Try Gunbroker, also.

Yes, that's all I'm looking for. After looking for a couple of weeks and at a gun show, I am just going to buy an A2 with a 20" barrell. Now I just have to figure out which one to buy. Any suggestions? I have looked at Colt, Armalite, DSC, PSA, etc. I just don't know which one to settle on.
