Sights for XD-9

I sent him an e-mail. I think I'm going to get some new sights anyways and just have him install them. The thread that CF posted scares me a bit, but there are always unsatisfied customers no matter where you go.

I emailed him about installing some Meprolights that I have. He said if I got them to him by Friday, he could have the slide back to me by Tuesday. Just so you know what sort of turnaround you're looking at.

Well he's had it since Feb 3. It's now the 13th and I don't have my slide. So much for 48 hour turnaround

-Called last Monday, he said they lacked installing the front sight, and it would ship Wednesday.. didn't show up.

-Called last Friday and he said they were waiting for sights for it to come in and that they would be there Saturday - this is after he said they had already started installing them - said it would ship Saturday.. here it is Tuesday (it's coming from Birmingham) and it's not here yet.

So much for the advertised 48 hour turnaround time.

I know he probably gets busy being a one man show. The last time I called he said he had 50 slides in house. I can take being without the gun for two weeks but when the website says 48 hour turnaround, I am 2 days via USPS away, and I am told the sights are in stock, don't promise me two days and then not deliver. Just tell me up front if they aren't really in stock! Tell me if it's not really going to be two days. If this were my main carry gun I'd be kinda pissed.

I am going to give him until this Friday which will be two weeks before I make a thread where he advertises on XDtalk.com. I don't want to but if he keeps pushing the ship date back, I'm just going to request that he charge back my credit card back and I will pay for him to ship the slide back to me. Worst case I will arrange to drive to B-ham and pick it up myself.

He seems like a really nice guy on the phone but damn, I have a feeling that place is very disorganized.

Cannon Fondler can say "I told you so" now :D

Well I don't even want that, I just want my slide with new sights installed. I've taken into account that something could have come up but reading some of the other posts on XDtalk I don't think this is unusual. At first I thought maybe these were just a small few disgruntled customers, but it looks more and more like what they are saying is true.

This reminds me of why no one but me works on my cars or just about anything I own  Now guns are included in that.

I should have just bought the sight pusher.

He is working on it and it should ship out tomorrow morning.. He took it to the range once and put the slide on a barrel and frame he knows shoots straight, and it still shoots far to the left.

I may have to send it to Springfield.. hooray for lifetime warranty. Let's hope this is the only time I need to use it!

Sorry that you're having such a rough time with James. I had him install my sights over a year ago, before all the "problems". You might be able to drift the sights over (if you can) if it is just shooting to the side and is OK with the elevation.

So if its still doing what it was doing before you sent it off, did he even fix what was wrong in the first place?

Well I didn't exactly sent it to him to fix, I just wanted sights installed and when I mentioned that it was shooting left, he said he could try adjusting them for me if I wanted; it would give him an excuse to go to the range.

I called him today and he said that it shipped out this morning, and that it was shooting straight after adjusting the front and rears a little. If they're moved over too much, I might just have to sent it to Springfield for the shooting left problem. Otherwise it won't be on center at ranges other than what it was sighted in at.

Hopefully it shows up Saturday so I can go put a few hundred rounds through it on Sunday morning!

Nah, he took the slide and put it on his barrel and frame, and shot it. Obviously it will be slightly different when I put it back on my barrel and frame since all guns are different. Since the sights are adjustable though, I will get them how I want them, cinch the screw down and loc-tite it in place.

Well I shot it today and it goups well. I shot 50 rds into this target at 10 yards. It seems a bit low, but I can adjust that out. At least it's on center now! I like the Tru Glo sights.. they're nice and bright.

The group to the bottom left was where I was shooting one-handed. This is obviously something I need to work on.
