A barrage of YouTube videos following Mitt's nomination. Didn't see that coming from you at all. Time to let go man. You can try again in 4.

We're between a rock and a hard place on this one. I feel the GOP is more representative of my positions than the Dems, but neither are my ideal choice. However, if I don't follow the GOP, I have no choice at all. The Republicans aren't for anything more than solidifying there power base and growing government authority, just like the Dems. They just go about it in different ways, using different issues that relate to a different segment of the population. They don't really want smaller government, that's just what a lot of us want, so they pander. Luckily they pander to my demographic and know I'll choose the lesser evil per my perspective. A choice between a douche and a turd. Meanwhile our country goes deeper in debt and further from freedom. Where are the Patriots? When do we realize we are choosing between a quick collapse and a slower one? A quick death or slow one? I I'm not saying Ron is the way, more so just speaking from the powerless feeling in my soul.

We need to make him his own thread where he puts everything he would normally post and get no replies to.

I seriously doubt TGO David would ever give anyone there own sub-forum to post anything they want. Nice thought though.

In 1848 the Free Soil Party running on two main platform points - abolition and homesteading - and with the motto "Free Soil, Free Speech, Free Labor, Free Men" - was able to get 10% of the vote for their Presidential candidate Martin Van Buren and elect just 14 Congressmen and 2 Senators - forcing the two main parties of the day - the Whigs and Democrats - to truly address these issues in the public dialog for the first time (the very first Senator to bring up the issue of nationwide abolition onto the floor of Congress was John P Hale - a Free Soiler). The Free Soil party dissolved in 1854 - but its core became the radical element within the Republican Party that wasn't just unionists but actual abolitionists and they were able to see The Homestead Act adopted in 1862 and the 13th Amendment enacted in 1865.

SO - there is in fact a historical precedence of a principled Third Party gaining just a foothold into American governance was able to make a huge difference towards the positive. Why is this relevant today?? Because if a sizable enough block of voters would actually vote for the third party candidate that represented their principles it would get the D's and R's nervous to see the "swing/independent" faction they actually need in order to win elections saying "enough is enough!" to their failed bi-partisan liberty killing policies - and help to get real solutions more into the public dialog and implemented more as policies - or at the very least would help to moderate the D's and R's heinousness. SO - bah humbug on those who think voting third party is a "wasted vote" or that they should just "stay home."

I don't think the GOP committed suicide, but it was pretty crappy they didn't give a fair representation of the votes. The Repub's are no better than the Dem's when it comes to how they play politics, it just makes them feel better about themselves to put themselves on their imaginary pedestal.

I give ArmyVeteran credit for standing up for what he believes. You don't like what he has to say, move on. We need more people who are willing to lead and not be popular. I hope the Republicans take Christie's advice from last night. They need to earn respect and not worry about being loved. Right now, neither the Repub's or Dem's have my respect. However, Ron Paul does. You may not agree with him a little or a lot, but I don't think anyone thinks he is pandering. I don't think the same can be said of the other two.

It's not that I would think it a wasted vote. It is more so that if I want a change in presidents, I have to vote Republican, or if I want to keep it the same, I have to vote Democrat. To vote for a third party will voice my opinion, but will also take a vote away from the candidate that will actually result in the desired effect.

GOP Commits Suicide By Nominating Romney and Ignoring Ron Paul? Really???

Ridiculous.

Committing suicide would have been cow-towing to Ron Paul, a man who after a very unsuccessful bid for President as the Libertarian and two utter unsuccessful bids to win the Republican nomination is still trying to play his own game instead of accept defeat the way a true leader does. Although, Ron Paul is much more of a class act that many of the Paulbots.

Ron Paul has been seen by the public for many years and he has been rejected, soundly rejected at that. He is no friend of the Republican party (and I believe he used the Republican only as a tool to advance his personal goals) and ignoring him is the only reasonable thing for the Republican party to do.

BINGO!!!

I voted 3rd party when Perot ran. in hindsight, I think all he really did was to pull enough voters away from the Republican party to get Clinton elected over George the First. Now I know that Bush had alienated much of his base by raising taxes despite an earlier pledge not to do that, but I still think were it not for Perot, Bush would have been reelected.

I think the situation with Paul is similar. At THIS point in time, I think all voters can do is to make a point by voting for him. I would rather make a difference by voting for Romney. Otherwise we might have four more years of Obama. We might not ever recover from that!

There is another "historical precedent" at play here that cannot be ignored except at risk of the destruction of the country and that is a complete and utter financial collapse which, without huge and major changes in direction, will overtake us.

We don't have time for a third party to get a foothold...I don't even know if we have time to avoid it at all because any one card falling in the house of cards we've built will be all it takes...if interest rates were just at their average rates right now even servicing the existing debt would be unmanageable let alone the $Trillion annual deficits projected going forward as far as anyone has looked.

What I do know is that voting for anyone other than Romney/Ryan will do nothing to unseat Obama and an Obama second term will seal our financial fate because Obama is so totally out of his depth and so totally focused on his socialists principles that he will never see the cliff until he is at the bottom of it along with what was once a great country.

oh dear lord, I am Ron Paul fan but Paulies are creating their own issues. When you are a nation this size with the diverse point of views as we have, you are not going to change hearts and minds by force. You will only change hearts and minds with proven success. The Paulies running around attacking the GOP because what drives the RP Libertarians does not DIRECTLY align with your run of the mill GOPer, Paulies then go after them just as hard as they attack the far lefturd. THis is what puts RP on a island. Saw Ron Paul last night talking on Fox about how he is not going to support the Mitt ticket. I understand and appreciate his point, but what he should have said is he will work with a Romney/Ryan administration to achieve what is needed. Instead he would rather piss on a GOP ticket that can help his cause and risk allowing another Obama administration that will fully destroy his cause.

Well said. You will not change anyone's point of view to vote Paul by attacking their politics (party). The title "GOP commits suicide" should be replaced by "Paulies alienate everyone and marginalize themselves." How many Paulies believe their right everyone else is wrong? They say BHO is a narcissist.

I saw that interview also. Confirms what I've always thought, RP is in it for himself and has as big an ego as BHO. His/OUR best interests doesn't concern him.

I glad his Son has better sense about him.

I'm so tired of hearing about Ron Paul.

He lost. Badly. Didn't even win his own district. (Kinda like Al Gore.)

I wanted someone other than Romney to get the nomination. He didn't. I moved on.

At this point, all of the RP stuff is "We lost, waaa, now we're going to cry about it indefinitely."

I would love to see a 69 day ban on political topics here. Everyone has their minds set on who is going to get their vote and I seriously doubt that anyone's mind will be changed from where they are right now.

Geez!!!

I'd love to see a 69 day too! Oh, I read that wrong. :0)
