He didn't let anything slip. He openly said years ago that he wanted to see all semi-auto guns banned.

Some people seemed to think that meant assault weapons; he didn't say that and I don't think that's what he meant.

I don't think he can get it done, but I don't see how anyone can be surprised when he tries; especially when he doesn't have to worry about getting reelected.

No way he can get it done.

What I meant by slip is I do not think he planned to be so bold on the subject right before the election. I think he wanted to attack Mitt so much that the opportunity to point out this flip flop got the better of his common sense and usual desire to duck the subject.... this will throw stir the pot, but I am really not sure what the effect will be .... anti gunners happy, sure, but we know who they were voting for. Pro gunners, sure, but they knew the score too. The guy with 1 pistol bought after 911 and not so sure even at this late date.... hard to say how such folks will feel. Going after handguns... is a bold move.... AR aside.

So what happens if they did ban them? Obviously stores would not be able to sell them!

Wait, what about that Supreme Court stuff a few years ago, the right to bears arms, can the President still ban them?

If it was a ban on the sale weapons, I would have to assume existing guns would be grandfathered in and hence their value would sky rocket. Or it could be like the Clinton ban on high cap mags, where mags were ridiculously expensive.

But like mike and Dave, I don't see it getting done.

Obama lets it slip early, before the election, I am surprised he admitted this ahead of time.

While the news harps on the AR side, he is after handguns as well, if you read his quotes.

QUESTION: President Obama, during the Democratic National Convention in 2008, you stated you wanted to keep AK-47s out of the hands of criminals. What has your administration done or planned to do to limit the availability of assault weapons?

OBAMA: We're a nation that believes in the Second Amendment, and I believe in the Second Amendment. We've got a long tradition of hunting and sportsmen and people who want to make sure they can protect themselves.

But there have been too many instances during the course of my presidency, where I've had to comfort families who have lost somebody. Most recently out in Aurora. You know, just a couple of weeks ago, actually, probably about a month, I saw a mother, who I had met at the bedside of her son, who had been shot in that theater.

And her son had been shot through the head. And we spent some time, and we said a prayer and, remarkably, about two months later, this young man and his mom showed up, and he looked unbelievable, good as new.

But there were a lot of families who didn't have that good fortune and whose sons or daughters or husbands didn't survive.

So my belief is that, (A), we have to enforce the laws we've already got, make sure that we're keeping guns out of the hands of criminals, those who are mentally ill. We've done a much better job in terms of background checks, but we've got more to do when it comes to enforcement.

But I also share your belief that weapons that were designed for soldiers in war theaters don't belong on our streets. And so what I'm trying to do is to get a broader conversation about how do we reduce the violence generally. Part of it is seeing if we can get an assault weapons ban reintroduced. But part of it is also looking at other sources of the violence. Because frankly, in my home town of Chicago, there's an awful lot of violence and they're not using AK-47s. They're using cheap hand guns.

And so what can we do to intervene, to make sure that young people have opportunity; that our schools are working; that if there's violence on the streets, that working with faith groups and law enforcement, we can catch it before it gets out of control.

And so what I want is a -- is a comprehensive strategy. Part of it is seeing if we can get automatic weapons that kill folks in amazing numbers out of the hands of criminals and the mentally ill. But part of it is also going deeper and seeing if we can get into these communities and making sure we catch violent impulses before they occur.

CROWLEY: Governor Romney, the question is about assault weapons, AK-47s.

If Obama is bent on destroying the low cost energy system our country has for green energy, if he is bent on destroying the best healthcare system in the world for Obamacare, if he is bent on destroying the middle class by destroying small businesses that create private sector jobs that in turn produce revenues(taxes) that support public sector jobs, if he is so bent on destroying our free enterprise economic system(capitalism) for Marxism/socialism, then certainly a Marxist/commie is bent on destroying the Constitution with the 2nd Amendment being assaulted all out during his second term and with nothing to lose, and no concerns for re-election.

Obama and his commie cronies have had a plan on how to bring America to her knees for a long time, and they are just beginning to implement those plans. Obama is the most dangerous President our country has ever had, and if he is re-elected he will think his re-election is a mandate to further his destruction of America. Assualt of the 2nd Amendment will be just days into his second term, and you can bet the farm on it if you still have one.

Clinton enforced an assault weapons ban didnt he?

There's a LOT of water under the bridge since then, including a lot of Demwit legislators getting thrown out on their asses over that very thing. You gotta realize that they have sold around 50 million guns just since the Obamunist has been in office.

I feel it is important to RED both of those.

You know damn well he would try it, but not worrying with Congress. Executive Order an AWB including .22lr pistols and rifles.

He has mentioned this along with Hillary pushing the UN treaty.

That just might blow up in his face, in any number of ways.
