Yea we mixed bleach in with the water. I think the tanks are actually 250 gal. They have the ratios of bleach to water on the Internet for storage.

There is a guy around manchester that has them also. I think i paid $85 IIRC. They are great. I use mine at the barn as a rain barrel and then water animals with it.

They are 275 gallon totes bins.

$100 is a good price for cleaned totes. We pay around $90 for reconditioned totes that we don't recondition ourselves..

I paid $100.00 each for the two food grade totes I got a while back. They stack well in my garage with plenty of room
between the cars. I thought about getting one more for gas, but I don't know, it could be big boom!

No, storing gas in a tote bin is not a good idea. If you are looking for storage of larger than normal quantities of gas, I would look at a closed head metal drum.

My dad had a tote he caught water in for the garden, I think the sun broke it down because I came out one day and it was split down the side. I broke the plastic into pieces easily and put in a trash bag. We've got a 550 gallon tank also and the smaller one was just additional over flow from it. Usually he opened the valve and didn't catch water in winter because of worry freezing will bust the tank but since I inherited the house and all that stuff and I like being somewhat prepared, I'm holding it. Dang I hope it don't bust it.

Anyways what I'm getting at is storing Tote's out of direct sun/weather may be best for longevity. Edited by JWC

Indeed, I keep mine covered with a brown tarp that matches the brick color of the house, its in a recessed area so it is not recognizable from the road for what it is, this keeps it protected from UV breakdown. On the topic of water storage and life of potable water in these tanks(food grade tanks), IN GENERAL, if you use a public water supply to fill it, from your faucet if not on well water, and they have normal chlorine concentrations 1 PPM(parts per million), then the water will stay chlorinated (if you keep the lid tight) for around six months or longer. However, the only way to know this is if you have a test kit for the chlorine. Of course the container should be very clean to start with. The general recommendation of most of the research that I have done, and my work experience at a certain job, on this says you want around 2-3 PPM just to be safe. So you need to add chlorine in most cases if you wish to do this. Here is one link that breaks it down pretty good with a video.

I found some really good prices on the tanks in Alabama off of Craigs List. I just rechecked for more listings and there are many if you search "275 gallon" on the Chattanooga CraigsList site.

God Bless, and Merry Christmas Everybody.

Don't know if anyone has looked into these, but I no longer worry about storing large quantities. I went with 3 of these rigs(extras for back up/split group scenario):

http://www.highwaterfilters.com/SP194-Complete-4L-Bag-to-Bag-Water-Purifier-System-p/sp194.htm

Used it thoroughly on our last trip. Will filter a stagnent pool. 1,000,000 gal guarantee. I have seen tank rigs that collect rain water with these filter units(just the filter, not the bags) at the bottom for pour on demand.

Hook it up with this at base camp for your metals, chemicals, and taste:

http://www.cheaperthandirt.net/product/9-37663?utm_source=GoogleShopping&utm_medium=organic&gclid=COqTuLTt_LYCFa5DMgodHzAAWQ

Then this for quick grab and go ventures out from your supply:

http://www.highwaterfilters.com/SP181-Sawyer-All-in-One-Water-Filter-Kit-p/sp181.htm

Best part is, you have the ability to set up a mass base camp water supply guaranteed at a million gallons each aside from the carbon on the Katadyn, and aside from the mass holding tank, could all be packaged in a child's backpack quickly for mobility.

I just bought a 3 food grade tanks from this guy. They were in great shape, once used. He has food grade and non.

He sold me 3 275 gallon pallet tanks for $70 per. Also has several hundred food grade 10 gallon barrels with airtight

lids and locking clamps priced at $8 per. I believe he was selling the non food grade tanks for $45 per.
