How have you shared your firearms obsession with your wife/gf today?

Recommended Posts

I've taken my wife shooting a few times and she enjoys it up to a point.  I did manage to talk her into taking the HCP course (she passed) but I've not managed to convince her to go to the DMV and actually apply for it.  I bought her a carry/bedside gun a while back.

Yeah the DMV SUCKS!!! But my wife applied for hers a few months ago and it came back in a few weeks! I was really surprised. When I got mine in 2010 it took like 6 months

She says.... "I'll have to sit there for hours!"   I say... if the waiting room is full, just leave and try again some other time.  In my experience and talking with others, morning, in the middle of the week, not at the end of the month, is the best time.

And say . . .

"That's OK dear. I'll sit with you, and we can talk together."

Fixed that for you.

You're very thoughtful.  If we could find a baby sitter and if I could get the time off work, I'd do that very thing.  We've talked about going as part of a "date night", except we haven't been able to do that in several months.  I wonder if the DMV is open wednesday....

My wife completely supports my shooting habit. She has always been there at the range and dare I say it.....shot better than me on most days. She and my son both have their concealed carry permits and encouraged 12 other military spouses to do the same. While I'm stuck here in Afghanistan she has searched wide and far for ammo and has stocked our supply to make sure we don't go without. Just yesterday she knew I was searching for a new scope for my AR15 build (Aimpoint PRO), she found one at a store and bought it for me and went to the casino that night and won the money back she spent buying it. So with the extra money she won, she went and found another place with ammo and stocked us up some more. So you can say that not only does she support my shooting but encourages it every chance that she gets. I just can't figure out who it is that she pictures when she is shooting the living hell out of those zombie shooting posters. She carries a Glock 19 and my son carries an XDm with them everywhere they are allowed. I think I did pretty good, 25th wedding anniversary is coming up....I can only imagine what she is going to want but I'll make it special for her....something in pink!

In my relationship, I am the gun nut and my husband has no interest in them whatsoever. I grew up in a shooting/hunting family, shooting since the age of 4, and was given my own bedside gun when I was 11. The arrangement my hubby and I have is that whenever I get to spend money on guns or gun stuff, he gets to spend equal money on his truck project. :)

I guess I am very lucky. Like so many others my wife and GF (one in the same), loves to shoot with me. She likes the pistols more than the rifles, She does love to run through a mag with the .22 bolt in the AR. She will load and go to the range on days I want to lay around and nap. An ourdoor range at that,

my fiancee supports my gun habit. she just told me to "get em' while you can" while discussing the B.O. problem ...

now if only I could get to her to clean the guns like she cleans the rest of the house ... ...

When you get that trick going there are a few us that just might pay you to tell us the trick!

Usually at the end of the trip her adrenalin is up and her heart is racing she has a big smile on face. It seems she will almost always offer to clean my gun, sometimes even give it a spit-shine, never my rifles or the pistols though......... :pleased:

I got my oldest daughter her 1st gun for Christmas this year. She started asking for a gun of her own over the summer when I let her(with my help and careful instruction) shoot for the first time. It's not pink, but she wasn't asking for pink. She wanted bright yellow and that's exactly what she got.

I thought she was a little young for a 22 but I came across one from a friend for about $10 more than I was going to pay for a bb gun and got it for her anyway. She has blasted several balloons so far with 22lr shot shells and has told everybody about it. She was even nice enough to let her little sister give it a try today. (Her sister is 3)

She is only 5 but has been watching me clean, handle, carry, and shoot guns since she was old enough to see, and I have taken the time to patiently answer and show her anything about guns that she has ever asked. I even take her and her little sister squirrel hunting and and let them help me sort and deprime cases, but I'm always careful not to over do it. I let them decide when they are ready to quit and do something else.

Guns are not taboo in my house, but are respected and enjoyed by my family, including my wife who enjoys shooting and hunting with her friends and me.

I hope eventually they will be as into guns, hunting, and shooting as I am.

Good for you, and your wife!!! That's exactly how I was raised.

This is how I was raised as well. Some people would flip out on you for letting your kids handle guns at that age but if you supervise them and teach them everything they need to know, your kids will be among the safest gun owners/users there are. The dangerous households are the ones where guns ARE taboo and mysterious. Way to go JB!

My wife loves the smell of Hopps no. 9.......is that odd? She will even sit at the table to watch me and my son disassemble the weapons and will assist with the cleaning and the reassembly if she isn't tasked out to something else. She encouraged and set up the Concealed Carry class for her and 12 other spouses (she is the FRG leader for my company of about 400 soldiers). All 12 passed and most already have their license to carry. The training has already come in handy, my wife was involved in an attempted robbery and car jacking at rhe USAA on 41A last week and she did everything she was supposed to do and it lead to the guy getting arrested and incarcerated. The guy was wanted for spousal abuse, robbery and the theft/car jacking of three vehicles with warrents in two other states and a person of interest for a murder of a woman. It won't make the news due to a concealed weapons carrier assisted in helping with the arrest of a known fellon. It works guys.....encourage them, we aren't always going to be there for them and they need to know what to do.............SGT Kempton, R (serving in Afghanistan).   :usa:

Yeah that has been happening A LOT lately. The only stuff that gets publicized about guns is bad stuff. It seems even Fox News is selling out. Not that it really surprises me.

You have no idea how nice it is to know I am not the only one.  i got my first gun at 5 and learned to hunt and fish and survive before I learned to drive. Taught my sons to do the same.  I am now with a wonderful man except that he doesn't shoot.  Got any ideas?  I am taking him to a gun show this weekend...if he will go....

In my opinion, an M1A is about the most invigorating, testosterone boosting gun a man can shoot. If you don't have one, find someone who does and let him rip off a couple mags through it. He will be a believer!! An AR would also work but the .308 is a lot more gratifying to shoot. Good luck and let us know about your progress

Well, I asked and he said yes!  So we are going to the gun show.  I am really excited about this!

Awesome!

Prepare for it to not be a Normal gun show.

Prepare for a line just to get in. Prepare to shop-while-standing-in-line. At some point, expect the fire marshall to only let one more person in when one more person gets out.

Prepare to be slightly freaked out that so many people are there, and simultaneously joyful that sooo many people are there who are like-minded.

This is how it was in the last gun show in Murfreesboro.

I wish I could find something that would get him interested in guns, but I think the chance of that happening is about as high as me getting interested in working on his truck. lol  Although.....he is mechanically inclined.....and I just got all my reloading equipment in (I'm starting a new branch to my hobby! :))......and he has actually been looking at my dies and press and other equipment a little more than he looks at my guns....hmmmmmm.....maybe reloading will be the bait that reels him in! :D

I am getting back into reloading too.  Was looking at presses this morning.  Mine is a plumber but he used to be an ASE Volvo and Volkswagan mechanic.  I think that just might be the hook I am looking for!  I want to put my equipment out and start reloading and see what he thinks....

For men that are not motivated to be in guns, here is a suggestion.  I use to be gun nut for years, and then it dampened for a long period of time, it was not until I was married and with children it hit me again, stronger than ever.  The defence effect of guns became front and center.  Though we had no direct incident that prompted my return, I do read way too much about home invasions and other things that go bump in the night.  If your man is not motivated, inform him how scared or concerned you are, tell him about news articles, make up stuff, and etc.  I believe most men should have a natural instinct to protect the heard (heard = wife & kids).

However, if the heard is well armed, then he might not be so concerned, just a lazy Lion, let the lionesses take care of the food and defence of themselves.  Not sure if I solved your problem, but that is not a bad idea.  Hmmmm.

And I am not sure if making up stuff is the way to go there ...

I think  protecting us and  what is ours needs to be a  family affair.. because if both people are not on board , things can go sideways really fast in a situation where both need to be working together.
