I follow this guy's suggestion (he is quite knowlegible), its borrowed from this posting http://www.tngunowners.com/forums/topic/56167-good-reloading-starter-kit/?hl=%2Bclean+%2Bbrass#entry859307,

I think #5 posting to be exact, 1/2 way through his post he writes:

No need to tumble your brass to clean them. Get some Lemishine at Walmart. Add a table spoon to some water and soak your brass for 24 hours. Every time you walk by give them a shake to aggitate them. Rinse them and let dry. Brass will be very clean and useable.

I limishine them if they are crusty then just leave them in the tumbler until I'm happy with them. I've ran some for 8 hrs a day for days until they come clean. Pull them as they shine and toss in some more. Sometimes I'll turn my tumbler on around daylight and it won't get turned off till night. I run mine with the lid off and I'll just stik my hand in there and pull a few then add some more.

Limishine works to get them clean but they don't look nice. They're dull. They will polish in short order though. Much faster than just tumbling alone and it's easier on your media. I just hate blowing out all the water to get them dry before tumbling. In the summer I set them on a towel in the sun.

I am trying to avoid the whole tumbler/media thing.  It's just one more thing to mess with and space is VERY much at a premium in my house.

So far I have been putting them in the washing machine with the laundry in a sock.  :panic:

I know, I know, lead poisoning, chemical poisoning and all that jazz.  I should be careful because nobody ever reloaded ammo before tumblers...

I havent tried the lemishine trick yet. Another trick is to use 1/2 cup of white vinegar to a gallon of water and a tablespoon of salt mix a little then let the brass set overnight. Drain and lay it out on newspaper to dry. It comes out pretty clean. I still tumble after just because i like pretty brass :D
