Good SHTF Survival Fiction Books

Recommended Posts

Finished Alas Babylon by Pat Frank, last night.  It's an excellent read!  Second time through for me.  Might go on to Lucifer's Hammer next.

Two of my favorites! I would like to read them again.

Earth Abides by George R. Stewart, was a good one too. A little dated written in 1949.

Read Earth Abides about a month ago. It was good. I was a bit troubled about how the group chose to survive. I would hope a group would try to rebuild a better life, rather than continue to scrounge 25 years later on old cans of food.

This is slightly off track here, but since when have we ever kept a thread on the same thoughts for very long.

Reading John Birmingham's Dave and the Monsters series. Fair entertainment, nothing really great. But if you are looking for a change, might give it a try.

Three books so far: Emergence, Resistance, and Ascendance. Originally said to be a trilogy, but look like a 4th might be in the works.

I just finished a fantastic zombie apocalypse thriller that I'd recommend. It was very well written and much better than the majority of zombie books out there.

It's priced very low(if you have a kindle) and there are multiple books in the series.

I just ordered Day of Wrath. Sounds like a good read.

In it's own slightly different way, it's a bit more frightening as ONE SECOND AFTER. The plot is easily thought of as realistically possible.

Not to make light of it, but it really puts me in mind of Chuck Norris and Invasion! USA! from many years back.

I think Day of Wrath should be required reading by every member of every school board in Georgia.  I thought about sending a copy to each member of my school board, but they would probably take it as a threat.

Current Georgia Code* allows school boards to authorize people with training and a Georgia Weapons Carry License to be able to carry in their schools.  It is a simple way to provide armed defense of schools.  The law is general enough that the requirements could easily be met, if the school board would just consider it.  Mine won't.

*As opposed to the actual law that removes the prohibition against carrying in schools by license-holders altogether, but the Governor has conspired and manipulated so as not be recognized.

I'm about halfway through "Enforcing Home" by A.American....pretty darn good thus far. It's book 6 of the series and I have thoroughly enjoyed it.

Maybe I haven't had enough coffee yet :pleased:   Are you referring to "Enforcing Home" or "One year after"?

They are both new..."One Year after" to be released on the 15th...today...it's the followup to "One Second After".

I had momentary dumbass. Enforcing Home. How was it? And I wouldn't mind finding out about One Year After.
