Tap-a-cap tool

Recommended Posts

Anyone make percussion caps using the tap-a-cap tool and roll caps? Would like to hear from someone that has tried this before I invest too much time experminting. Have recently started making replicas of some of the old handgonnes and cheroot cane hand cannons. Also load 41 colt,38 spl. ,38 s&w crtge with black powder. Like the loads in these old gun ,don't have to worry about blowing them up.

I have one of those tools, and it makes pretty good percussion caps.  Not as reliable as factory caps, but they do work most of the time.  It does not work for making modern-style primers.

Where are you finding paper roll caps?  I haven't seen any of those in some years.

Bought some at the Dollar Store, they were made in China not much quality control, went into local Wally world and found some made in Germany,  a lot better quality. I don't have a tap-a-cap tool, they quit selling in 2010, but I have a set of drawing that I found on the internet and plan on making one. Will try making the cutter without the teeth first to see how that works. Cutting the teeth looks to be the most diffucult part. Would like to buy a tap-a-cap tool easier than making one.
