Dremeled off some of the bayo lug - do I have to reparkerize barrel?

Some of you may have seen that I had some of the bayo lug dremeled off my 590 in order to get more clearance for the Surefire light. I have heard that doing this mean you have to have the barrel reblued ( or in my case, reparkerized. ) Is this true? What will happen if I do not have it done? It's such a small part that was cut off I couldn't see anything bad happening, unless I'm very wrong about the power of rust. How hard / expensive is it to have a barrel reparkerized?

After: ( Also had the cut area grinded and sanded down. )

I see no reason it needs to be reparkerized at all. You have other options you can take.

You can paint it (flat black and  a brush) or even spray it. I've heard chalk board paint works well.

Krylon Paint or High Temp engine paint would work.

You can cold blue it yourself which is really easy on small stuff. Or just keep a coat of oil on it and call it good.

I don't think it's much to worry about myself. I'd try cold blue first and see what happens. But I all ready have some cold blue so.

I use Vans or Berchwood casey paste.

If that didn't work, I'd use use a good spray paint and paint it.

Don't spray the paint on the barrel/lug. Spray the paint in a small container and brush it on. That's the easiest way to do it.

Thanks for the quick replies guys. It's such a small area I was wondering if it would even be worth bothering with.

What would happen if I didn't do anything to it and left it as is?

It will rust, though how fast and how severe depends on the environment it sees.  A black sharpie or paint pen is a quick fix.
