First Time Purchase - Transfer vs Local Buy

Recommended Posts

I'm looking to make my first hand gun purchase within the next few days. I've called everyone local but no one has the "kit" I'm looking for in stock in the caliber I want. I found an online reseller (through gunbroker) where I can purchase what I want for $547 delivered versus the $609 sticker price local + 9.25% tax. I would use D&T for the transfer being they are a supporting vendor and offer a discount.

Any recommendation or argument either for or against buying online and transferring? The gun is BNIB so I assume I could still register it for the lifetime warranty and everything.

I have done several transfers (AR Lowers) through D&T. They have done an excellent job with all of mine. If you can't find what you want locally, and you want it now, I don't see any other choice. I wouldn't hesitate. Just make sure D&T knows it's coming, and that their FFL is on file at Gunbroker. If it isn't, D&T will have to provide it to them before they ship.

I normally buy locally just to support the local shops. The way things are right now, I think I would just get where the getting is good.

I've done a transfer through D&T... great folks. As mikegideon said, just be sure that they have a heads up that it's coming and whether they need to fax a ffl to the selling dealer. In my case, I just bid low on a gun at gunbroker and for some reason, no one else wanted it that day.

I 2nd what mike said almost to a tee except i add that buying locally also gives you Jeep and support should you have a problem. This is more important with your first purchase.
