AK-47 build....ready to hand it off.

Recommended Posts

Purchased a de-mil Romy kit with a new barrel from Classic Firearms awhile back.

I've got the riveting complete and now I'm pressing the barrel in with a Toth fixture.

I can't get it to go in any further though it seems to still have a little ways to go (maybe a little over a millimeter)

I'm ready to hand it off to a competent AK gunsmith in or around West Tennessee before I completely screw something up.

Any suggestions?

Thanks in advance.

Everything needs to be super clean and smooth. Put the barrel in the freezer over night and heat the trunnion with a torch. Not too hot now! Then you have to get on with it. No goofing around. If the temps start equalize the trunnion will contract. There's a good bit of an interference fit with AK barrels. They can be a real pain in the butt.

Take a quick look and make sure the trunion rivets aren't getting in the way. Seems like I remember having to do a little dremel work on one where part of the rivet was left proud. ... you may already be in too far for that to make a difference.
